Virus TI Questions
View this Thread in Original format
Ry Thomas
Hiya peeps, i'm ordering a TI in the coming few days but want to clear a few things up as google aint being my friend.

- How many patch/performance parts do you get in USB mode?

- Can you use it in USB mode and use the additional 3 stereo outs?

- Has anyone ever maxed one out?? If so how many instances can the DSP handle???(I doubt i'd totally smother a track in virus sound but am just curious)

you can only run 1 instance at a time, the virus can be broken down into 16 seperate parts but can only be routed thru the 2/3 USB channels & 3 additional analog outputs.

So basically i can have the 16 virus parts hitting the mixer in 12mono/6 stereo channels??

Anthony,
Is there a new firmware update I missed that gives you a 3rd USB output?

Ry,

When you say '16 parts hitting the mixer in 12mono/6 stereo channels'. Are you referring to a hardware mixer or your DAW's software mixer?

As it works in my Logic system at the moment:
16 Virus parts
5 Stereo Outputs. 2 are over USB and route directly to the DAW mixer, and 3 are hardware that would run into a hardware mixer or back through the inputs on your audio interface.

In a perfect world each of the 16 parts would have it's own output. that's the only thing that really peeves me about the TI. 2 ADAT optical outputs or something would have been dope.
Ry Thomas
Yeah how you said it there mate, thats how i thought it would work, 2 or 3 via usb then another 3 through my external mixer then all 5/6 showing up as 5/6 Cubase mixer channels

2.7 sometime next month i heard :) and although i can only find this:

i think i heard on one of the NAMM youtube videos that the virus would have a 3rd USB output but i can't find it in writing anywhere... perhaps they were just talking about the ability to route audio in & out at the same time. hope i didn't make your pants wet :tongue2
StanVoid
you mean to say there's already a 2nd USB output available?

Doesn't the Virus SNOW have 3 outputs over USB? I have to assume they'll tweak the TI to fall in line. [crosses fingers]

One last note FYI, the digital SPDIF output mirrors the hardware output #1. So even though there are 4 outputs on the TI, you only get 3 unique outputs.
Ry Thomas
Yeah cheers for the heads up mate, i'm kinda out of SPDIF sockets since i got my new reverb so that will have to stay unused on the TI

if you run 2 USB outputs + an additional analog output through your soundcard, do they each have 16 midi channels or are the 16 midi's split up among all your audio outputs (i.e. you can have MIDI 1-5 on 1 USB, 6-10 on the second USB out, and the reamining MIDI timbres through the analog).

can anyone explain?

Ry Thomas
I think i'll try and see if i understand this and explain.

- you get 1 Virus Control plugin instance

- from this you get 16 midi parts.

- these 16 parts can be sent to 1 of either 2 usb outs, or 3 stereo analogue outs

I think that is how it works. 1 VC plugin with 16 midi parts

... right. are you asking can you assign each instance within the virus to its own output and own input? of course.
