Regular Pitch Or Master Tempo?
View this Thread in Original format

Well I lately had the chance to get fremiler with my Master Tempo.
I Came to realize its pretty cool, I mean changing the pitch without changing the rythem can be wuite handy if you need a few fixes during the mix, but for some reason I feel like the pitch is slower.
Anyway what do you guys think about the master tempo?
Project T
pitch man, temp sux, that extra pitch helps make the songs cooler if u speed em up, jus dont hav the energy when u speed it up, although tempo is useful for if you r gonna use a track with already high pitched vocals. Try usin em both 2gether :)
Scorchio
Exactly what I was thinking
What will I do with a track like Rapture for example?
:)
Project T
yeah, good example, but them choon like that n flesh r wot u need it 4, but u wudnt wanna be doin it for some songs that really shud b pitched IMO like Out Of The Blue :D
DJTJ
Be warned that using master tempo adversely affects the sound quality of the track, whereas simply changing the pitch doesn't make any difference to it.

How does master tempo change the sound quality? And how bad does it make it sound?

by changing the master tempo you are distorting the sound. By changing the pitch you are merely speeding it up (or down). If you crank the MT you'll see how bad it can really sound. Although I know of dj's use the distorted sound as an effect in itself.

Well, I have noticed that sometimes the sound can be distorted a bit.
I Guess I'm a pitch man... :)

master tempo is an effect used in production for changing the speed of something without changing the pitch (or vice versa). for instance, if you want to remix say, a michael jackson song. You might need to speed it up so that it fits with the remix you're making. Basically what you can do is speed up the MJ tune without changing the sound of Michael's voice (ie. keep him from sounding like a chipmunk). Some mixers now come equipped with that as a featured effect (Pioneer DJM600) so you do this live.

Oh THAT.. thanks for the clarification boomp. :)

I've heard some newer turntables have a tempo adjust function too. I guess that would mean speeding up the pitch without altering the vocals.

I always use MT for vocal songs so they dont sound chipmunk
but for other tracks, normal pitch gives a speedy feel
