Fidget House?

Well i saw this posted on another forum, i found it interesting so i am posting it here:

An Introduction to “Fidget” House

What’s this? Another Sub-genre?

Yes yes, today it’s all about Fidget House – the chop/mash/slash-it sub-genre of house. Some might wonder what it is that’s inspired such an inane post – well it turns out that despite Fidget having been around for the last 5-6 years, there may be a little sub-genre confusion (no surprises there). Some people get themselves tied in a knot over genres, sub-genres and sub-sub genres whilst others gabble ad-nauseam in an “informed” manner about the latest wave of funk-step break-house-core. I’m hoping to clear the smoke a little and explain why Fidget can’t just be lumped with the rest – without sounding like I’m a cut above the rest.

Although fidget house as a sub-genre may be a relatively small one, it certainly represents a style of music which differs enough from standard house to deserve a sub-genre of its own. Let me put it this way – Frankie Knuckles probably wouldn’t have back-to-backed the Switch remix of “Something On Your Mind” with his “The Whistle Song”.

Where did this “fidgeting” all start, and what’s really so great about it?

The term apparently originates more as a joke than anything by Dave Taylor (Switch) and Jesse Rose (according to Wikipedia a least) – but one can pretty easily see where the “Fidget” fits in. This genre conjures images of ADHD kids sitting with samplers and keyboards whacking buttons and stabbing chords – doing what they do best. Fidgeting.

Chopped up vocals, wild jacking, funking, splurging basslines, a multitude of semi-breakdowns and percussive fills are par for the course in a typical Fidget track. A stellar example of a fidget overhaul of a typical pop track is Switch’s remix of P.Diddy and Christina Aguilera’s “Tell Me”. The vocal workover on the track is really something amazing, especially when you go back to the original and find the parts of the track from which he took the samples.

I find Fidget to be pretty overbearing and not something that can be listened to for hours on end, but DAMN does it get the party started. The bump-factor of these tunes is movement-inspiring, with chopped-up vocals making you wanna get dirty with any nearby and viable partners.

Artists to look for include: Switch, Jesse Rose, Crookers, Speakerjunk, Trevor Loveys (and aliases), Herve, Sinden, The Bloody Beetroots, Mowgli, Hostage, Fake Blood, Black Ghosts.

The best way to really break into the genre is to trawl your way through music blogs as a lot of it is more on the underground side and Fidget being relatively small there’s also no genre listing for it on most digital download sites.

This is James Amato's baby and I wish it would ing die.

I'm pretty sure him, Rose, and Switch all decided they wanted to play jackin' house but didn't want people to think they were gay, so they came up with "fidget."

What's hilariously ironic is that somehow they've managed to come up with a genre name that sounds even more gay than "Jackin' House."

Sooooooooooooo....what's Jackin house and how is it either the same or different from fidget house?

Before I even read the description of fidget house it made me think of the first few tracks on Adam Freeland's Global Underground 32 mix Mexico City. It was very grindy and cut up and had vocals so jacked up it was hot! Anyway...I enjoy it how just gives your brain such a crazy start stop loopy kick in it's face and some of it just has the sickest groove.

This thread would be a good start: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...ht=Jackin+House

Summary: House genre that arouse from gay clubs in Chicago in the 80's. I realize this is a gross oversimplification, but this is Trance Addict - what do you expect?

I'm kind of looking for more of a description of the music...not the origins or whatever. I definitely know that a genre arising in the 80's couldn't be what I was thinking fidget house is. I'll have to give a listen to the adam freeland disc on my lunch break and I'll post back here with the titles and that is what I'm thinking fidget house is.

I think they need to take it one step further to "Frot House.":tongue2

But seriously, how could they pass by the obvious "Crack House?"
