YES, technically there is less sound but we cannot tell the difference! are you telling me you can tell the difference is the file is 192 or 320?

CQ quality-meaning sounds exactly like it would sound on a cd bought from a store after you burn it back.

Well there is not much between 192 and 320, but there is a big enough dif between mp3 and wav, no matter what the encoding.

What I find is that most of the music is properly recreated. The stuff that is saved and converted to MP3 sounds great, but I find that to save space, MP3 actually drop some of the sounds that would be harder to hear. So you actually lose some sounds, rather than loosing quality on the sounds that are kept. Sometimes I can hear layers or instruments on the CD that I cannot year on the mp3.

imo mp3 320 = wav, sound wise
again i know technically it does not because information is lost bla bla
but i have done this test myself to tell the difference and it's impossible, i have burned 5 tracks that were both mp3 and wav and burned them on a cd and could not tell the difference which one sounded better

what you're talking about is probably mastering, also depends if you are listening in headphones or not. I can hear every single sound in headphones rather than speakers. In the car i also get good sound because the space is closed up and you hear everything.. also depends what music you are listening to, like i said classical is best in 320 and sometimes 48khz.

i think we need mr. fabian strong to post in here regarding this topic. he would school us all.

Why would master have an effect on what sounds are dropped by the mp3 encoding? To me, that was the basis of how an mp3 worked, it dropped sounds that you were not likely to hear due to the dynamic diff between the two sounds that are right beside each other.

Listening on headphones makes a huge difference, as that is where I listen to most of my music. With a good pair of headphones and a good player, the music just sounds richer when it is a WAV/CD.

A car is only a good place to listen if you are sitting still. otherwise the wind noise helps block out some of the quieter sounds. Thats why it is so hard to listen to classical in car, because you have to constantly raise and lower the volume. With pop, it doesn't matter.

When most people state that they cannot tell the diff, its because they do not have the equipment to do so. Their speakers/headphones/players just are not high quality enough to play a CD at its best, so therefore you won't hear the diff.

As with most, we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

As a DJ, there really is no reason to buy anything other than 320kbps.

Most digital download sites offer this quality at no extra cost....

The only reason buying WAV files (for me personally) is if I have any intent on editing it for personal use.

I can easily hear the difference between 192 and 320! Not only that, but I can also hear the difference between 320 and .wav. MP3 compression does this weird thing to very sharp transient sounds (ie. the peak of a kick drum). No matter what the compression rate is, mp3 is a lossy compression format, you are losing data no matter what. If you can't hear it, it's because you aren't trained enough to hear the difference it makes, or simply cannot hear it, but there is a difference nevertheless.

From what I know I'd have to totally agree with Orko and Swonders ..

by the way I could totally tell the difference on that site with my mdr7506's on..too easy

Mastering a track is very important too.. if it's mastered poorly it will sound like ass either way.

Want the best sound quality for highs? Buy a Cd

Want the best sound quality for lows? Buy a record

Don't care about sound quality and only care about money? Download an MP3
