Bit of a silly question but... Laptop positioning..

Just curious.

I built my table a while back.
Here is an old pic of it when i had it set up in my house.

Now my table isn't there any more it's in my garage instead and i have nothing in front of it, So, i want to build myself a laptop stand.

I'm tempted to attach it to the corner with a slight overhang over the right turn table.
But a friend suggested i set it up over hanging the mixer slightly (in the middle)

I'm just wondering from people playing with the laptop in various positions, which do you prefer.

I personally was going to put it on the right corner because of the social aspect of being able to talk to everyone who's chilling out in front of me, rather than having to talk over a laptop, but i can see having it right in front of you being easier perhaps. Or maybe the fact that you're not always leaning over to one side 'using a computer'...

I dunno, just thought i'd through it out to the Dj Booth and see what you guys prefer or have any ideas i might not have thought of :)

bastards.. let me fix the pic..

i can't see the pic, but weren't you the guy who built a table almost exactly like the sefour one?
anyway, regardless of the table, i'd put the laptop in the middle, for a couple of reasons:
1. monitor (speakers) placement. if you place it one the side, it might be in the way of your other monitor, which wouldn't be very nice.
2. monitor (screen) placement :p . i once had two computers and two monitors on my desk. the other one was in the middle, because i used it more than the other. then i installed linux on the other and ed around with it for a while. a few days later my neck was seriously jammed because it had been turned to the right for quite a long time. now i know you wouldn't be watching the screen THAT much when djing (you're using serato, right?) so probably this wouldn't be that much of a problem, but it might do something.
3. i think it'd look better in the middle, more balanced.

:)

Fixed?

I see where you're coming from..
Monitors... luckily i only have the one :) Haven't got money to invest in them yet. So i've only got one JBL EON G2 10" Which i got for free and only now know how much the ****** costs! lol

I just suppose it's the whole 'using your Laptop to dj' which puts me off, but i'm just throwing this out there because i wanted to see what people thought befor i start cutting pieces of wood etc.

I suppose at the moment i'm just not using loops with Serato etc, so i load a track and then i don't look at the laptop while i cue it up and mix it in.

Maybe i'll make a platform that can be moved around the back of the table lol.. So whatever i'm feeling like, i can slot it out and in where i want to put it :D

What kinda speaker is that? Looks like the B&W Hi'Fis we have on our home theater system.

They are B&W's not exactly sure of the model though as they're very old (well about 18 years now i think)

Two low end speakers 1 mid range and a titanium tweeter in each tower. They give off an amazing sound! Always loved them..

Used them for my sisters 21st, until the poor Denon amp blew. But the speakers were fantastic!

Well spotted.
Palladium
wherever is placed

just make sure it doesn't overheat and doesnt fall like above that speaker

Haha, thanks dude. My dad bought a pair that look just like that one about 5 years ago and had them integrated into our wall unit via Toslink cables...they are great aren't they?

It's not my laptop mate ;) But it was secure up there (rubber bits were holding it in place)..

I'll be making a table for it so i could cut some air vents into the platform i'm putting it on.
Good call actually! :)

ps if you don't have a solidstate harddrive in that thing.. and your speaker ain't magnetically sheilded not only are the vibrations a risk.. but the magnetic pulse of the actual tweet/WOOF.. could damage your data on your harddrive.. very dangerous to have a laptop within the magnetic zone of a speaker. (or any harddrive for that matter)

lol.. turntables are the perfect height for me actually. I'm 6'3", arms aren't even at 90degrees. But cheers for the suggestion.

Regarding the laptop it was there for the picture. The table was in that position/room for a whole day. And then moved back to the garage. I'll take another picture.

The speakers aren't shielded actually, but the tweeter's drivers are at the top and aren't really strong enough to do any damage to the laptop. Vibrations over long term would of course have an affect, but as i said the laptop was being used there for a whole 2-3 hours i'd say.

So.... laptop position. lol
