Very nice EP (?) JBJ. "Let It Fall" and "Out of the Way" brough to mind the deep kraut ambient of Tangerine Dream circa 1970 ("Phaedra" and "Rubycon"), Steve Roach and the dark ambience of Lustmord respectively, whereas "Rushing" has some fantastic slow chord changes that somehow sound like a more "maximal" version of The Field's ambient tracks. Nice track that conveys some sort of sweet melancholy. Beautiful. "Sugar" has a nice and playful, 70s retro-spacey ambience (i can imagine an American broadcaster from a 70s documentary talking about sugar processing on top, if you do that it would be very Boards of Canada-ish haha)which makes it very "space-age" style music. "The Impossible" is my personal favorite, whilst slow, it gradually develops into something very powerful without having to employ any bells and whistles. To me, the greatest mistake would be to add plastic down-tempo beats to those beauties. Whilst slow, "The Impossible" has a very nice Vangelis-style cinematic atmosphere, almost like a slow Blade Runner interlude. "The Possible" is a nice extension to the previous track whereas "The Sky is Made of Gold" is a nice typical ambient track with some good nostalgic sounds. "Tunnel" conveys exactly what its' name says. A dark pathway with some glimpses of light toward the end (bringing again Steve Roach to mind). Lastly, the "wax-and-wane" style bright chords of "Watch The Shore" can almost make one feel the warmth of the sun in his/her skin for a while. Very nice.
6,5/10
Have you cosnidering developing this style further? there are good ambient labels that may like your work. e.g. n5md or Spotted Peccary, i say make a few more and send them your work! I'd like to hear more ambient tracks sir, i think that you are quite talented at it. |

Hey, thanks for the feedback. :D
And yes, I want to make more of this sort of thing. Especially since I think that the general area of ambient / experimental music is where my talent lies. I usually find ambient more enjoyable to make than dancey stuff, although that can be fun as well. |

For some reason the sound in that tracks just made me think of sweets / candy.

Yeah, one evening I made the start of that one and then stayed up the rest of the night finishing it along with "The Possible." Definitely a burst of inspiration... |

| Nice, I haven't been listening to music like that for like two years, could you recommend any producers I might check out? |

Thanks.
Some producers I enjoy: Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Autechre, and The Orb. Also Cliff Martinez's soundtrack work and Mark Isham's work on the movie Crash. |

Very much enjoyed. Thank you for sharing!
I really love the drone sounding tracks in this one. Out of the Way and The Impossible, as well as Tunnel.
The Impossible has some very good tension builds in it, so good that you don't realize that its even building really till it just cuts out and you feel a bit relieved!
Let it Fall really does remind me of a growing rain storm, not a foreboding sound but if you have ever been caught in a spring squall it feels like that.
Very nice. |
