hopefully someone nice can enlighten me.

1. rout my bass (midi) output to the stereo channel of the quadro group and prefader send my kick to the left & right.
2. polish with compression/chain
3. cannot figure out how to eq post compression/chain

Because the bass and kick are compressed together in the quadro group, how can i eq them individually post quadro compression/chain?

cheers

not sure what you mean by quadro, or "polish with compression/chain" (what is chain, and how does one "polish" with compression?)

But in any case, if your kick and bass have been sent to a group and compressed together, any eq applied after that will affect the group. You can't apply eq to the kick or bass in isolation after they've been grouped/compressed together.

If you want to eq one of the sounds and not the other, the eqing will have to be done on the individual sounds before they are grouped together.

I would suggest you download Sidekick V3. Its a freeware VST that allows you to do sidechaining. Insert as as last insert effect, read manual and use...itīs a great tool...

I don't like it. It's really buggy and loses its settings sometimes after saving and loading up the project.

+1

absolute piece of imo. if you have cubase 4, just use the inbuilt one. if you have cubase sx3, use the dbaudioware dxi or vst. all other daws have their own inbuilt sidechain compressor now (sonar, ableton, etc.), so using sidekick is really redundant.
