I really miss Friday nights at ARIA a few years back. I used to bring new people to the scene there and they'd thank me for bringing them and were dying to go again.

This is so true. I remember the night I went to Aria and heard techno I was instantly addicted! It changed my life. Everytime I would bring someone new, they would have the best time of there life. Now I bring out people who have never been and it just isnt the same. Im allmost emberassed to be part of the scene here now...

You keep contradicting yourself dude.

You say you want techno like Richie Hawtin and Jeff Mills, but you say you hate minimalism.

Basically, what you like is upbeat, harder techno.

Don't mix that with minimalism.

Richie Hawtin and Jeff Mills are sone of the major advocates for stripped-down techno.

Minimalism doesn't mean it has to be slow.

You know what I mean.. I am not a DJ so I am not an expert on the names of everything, but I've been going to raves for over 10 years and I know what sounds good and I know what I've seen. Uplifting happy music is what people like (of course some don't, like you) espcially new people to the scene. What is more popular? The Chill out tent or the main stage? Why do you think the scene has shrunk so much here then? I've never heard someone say oh that music was too fast and uplifting. I have heard from many many people that this DJ is not really uplifting it's kinda boring.
fullhouse
embarrassed?
you're a loser
go listen to kevin energy and trancecore in your garage and pop speed like its ritz bits, that's what your style has evolved into
you're not even worthy of the scene hahaha
fullhouse
i just read your post
so you like that happy hard style
go on rave.ca and look it up, you'll find your scene
but dont come back and say our music embarasses you
i just might have to pull a chuck norris...

Yup, the scene could be better.

That's for sure.

But we still got I Love Neon, Piknic Electronik, MUTEK, and the occasional mirrorballs/dizzyphunk/microzoo/noerg partys

Yeah you just summed it all up right there. Winter can get boring when there is no piknik every weekend.

We need to make the most of it, and give a motivation to promoters to give us more forward-thinking music.

I'm not talking about the "conventional" club music scene (including tribe, which occasionnally brings a more "risqué" artist), which is pretty healthy at the time.

But the "real" underground music scene needs to be revigorated a little.

First thing first, DJs and artists need to be able to make a living off it here, in order to stop the massive exodus to berlin.

Oh and it's quite interesting to see that one of the healthiest scenes in Montreal is the whole blog-house movement covered by Neon, Peer Pressure, High Food, etc.
