How do you memorize melodies?

I was working on a track yesterday and I couldn't come up with a consistent melody while working on the track but it finally came when I went off to sleep. I tried remembering it by mimicking the notes on a keyboard and playing them out loud for 2 minutes but 30 seconds after I stopped I had already forgotten it...:( sad because I hanged on it pretty long...

How do you guys remember your melodies?

why don't you record it ? ... open your sequencer choose a vst then start claping your keyboard save and have a nice sleep then :)

If it's actually memorable, I'll be able to whistle it a few times and then remember it without doing any of those things.

:p

Usually, I don't. Le sigh.

So, I just come up with a new one.

I grab my cell phone and record myself using the little voice note recorder. Seems to work for the most part.

+1 Often when I'm at work, I start comping melodies in my head - and if it's something I'd like to use, I grab my cell phone and record it humming or whistling. Same happens sometimes while I lay in bed trying to sleep. But I'm too embarrassed to start humming to my phone with my girl next to me in bed. :p
