Probably a FAQ
But I don't see it anywhere on the forum ^^

I heard if you have the non compressed instrumental of the track and the one with vocals you can extract them using programmes like Audacity. Obviously theres more to it but I wouldn't be able to help any more than that.

Well, I've heard that vocals are usually left in the 'center' of the soundstage, and so doing some trickery (I don't remember exactly what) but the vocals can be removed from a track.

Now, one could try taking the devocaled track and subtracting it from the original version to maybe be left with the vocals themselves.

Of course, I haven't bothered to give it a try, but I think most people just use creative filtering to isolate as much of the vocals as they can.

you need an instrumental version of the track as well as the vocal version.
invert the phase of one, run them together in something like soundforge and the phase cancellation will leave you with just the vocal, or whatever else the instrumental doesnt have.
works very effectively in a lot of cases- but you have to be sample accurate to get it to work.

Will not work with MP3s tho- needs to be uncompressed non lossy files- so basically a .wav .

if you dont have the full instrumental, you can use loops from sections of the full track to give you sections of vocals, or remove drums....

quite a fun process actually- and yes it DOES work.

all you need to do is cut the low end frequencies, put a condom on a cheap mic and record the track in dolby mode, then play it without dolby mode

try it!

I can't believe the amount of poo poo that I'm reading in this thread.

You cannot extract vocals. If you try, it will sound like crap.
:stongue: @ using a condom on a mic and record in dolby. I do hope that was sarcasm :wtf:

Now is the shovel itself at an elevated temperature, or is the process of the shovel-beating arousing?

Either way, this is the easiest way to get a clean vocal track.

Freak's method works. so yes, it can be done if you have the instrumental version which is exactly the same as the vocal one but without vocals.
