usually you can pick some up at a local coffee shop, whole foods, wild oats, trader joes might even have some. |

Grow up. That's the most popular and widely used device for making espresso-like coffee in the world. It's still called espresso (caffe) by everyone that uses it, including Italians. It's also easier to use, costs a crap load less than a high pressure machine and if you want an espresso, as the OP stated in his title, is the best way to go. If you want a cappuccino, which would then require steamed milk, then yes, you need something else. But then he should have said he was looking to make cappuccinos, not espressos.
I'm sorry that the 75 year old Bialetti doesn't live up to your culinary Nazi standards, but for home made espresso, this device works fine for millions. |
