Aliases and Artist/Project Names

I have one project name (i.e., cryophonik), which is the same name that I use for all of my music forum aliases. However, I've noticed that many people on these forums have multiple aliases for different forums and/or myspace pages, and many of you don't use your project name as your alias. From a self-marketing standpoint, it seems to me that it would be most advantageous to have one alias, which is the same name as your primary project, just to maximize your name recognition.
So, I'm just curious to know if you use a single alias, or multiple aliases and your reasons for doing so. |

I used to have a lot of different names but now I'm just using the one (apart from the collab projects, that is). It just seemed to be pretty pointless to have all these names when everyone knew it was me anyway.
Sometimes I still put out a track with a different name tho, but those are usually tracks I've made just for fun and/or are some weird experiments but that's about it. And my forum name is so idiotic I would never use it on a production (although I have done so many years ago). |

when i first started producing i had some kinda vision that i would have one alias for each genre i was producing in. one for trance, one for techno, one for house etc. now i understand that was just stupid and realy messed up my promotion-situation: triple the job. now im only focusing on two aliases, which i someday will close down and kinda melt into one, but i havent goten up with any name for that yet. |

i started off with alot of different aliases but none really stuck. then the sterilis name took off so ive just continued to work under that name. although i might move onto using my real name in the future. |

Both my artist aliases have 2 words in them, so I don't use them for forums. Name recognition on a forum is not going to amount to much anyway, and I'm not trying to market myself on a forum. Besides, what if you said something on a forum that someone didn't like, that could reflect badly on your artist name. No sense in taking that chance of turning people off. I prefer to remain incognito on forums. |
