Wow, this is garbage.

I don't give a about more channels if they aren't even going to be true 1280x720 resolution or higher, since the only worth watching in HD are nature documentaries and sports anyway, which is already covered pretty well. Kinda pissed. |

Well they're already jumping on the torrent throttling with their cluster internet service.
Now all you Sympatico internet users can feel us Rogers customers' pain when you try to torrent the latest Linux ISOs :D |

I guess I can call their rentention office about this stating that its not a true HD signal and hopefully I won't have to pay for the added HD channels.

haha. It was a joke...
I'm not sure what other channels I'd actually want in HD. Pretty much everything I watch right is already in HD (well, on an HD Channel. Whether or not the program on the HD channel actually IS in HD is a different question.)
Maybe Spike? At least then I can watch some HD UFC.

nope. get yourself a free-to-air HD receiver with an 8psk module (viewsat 9000 HD is recommended). the only other way is to hack the dish vip 211 receiver which requires you to swap the tsop chips, pull the internal rom chip and mount it on a bga board, activate the card slow and unlock the bga card. however, i think subscription cloning is the only hack available for the vip series of receivers at the moment so that idea is down the ter.
get a fta hd receiver and set up dishes for nimiq1 (known as 91 west for expressvu) for bell's main channel lineup, nimiq2 (known as 82 west for expressvu) mainly for expressvu hd, echostar8,10 (known as 110 west for dishnet) for half of dishnet's main channel lineup, echostar7 (119 west for dishnet) for the other half of dishnet's main channel lineup, and echostar5 (129 west for dishnet) for hd. the you're laughing cuz you will have probably over 2000 channels to watch all on the same receiver. |

Yeah, I've read all about the FTA Receivers and setting myself up a dish.

Comcast just started this a couple of months ago in the states. They probably will not be decreasing the resolution, just lowering the bitrate. Articles which explain how they do it, and some examples of what it does to the picture quality:

Funny thing is, Rogers' and Bell's services already change the signal quality that they get from the providers. If you have ever seen the difference between HD from antenna, and from a Rogers/Bell box, you would be ashamed you are paying either. Chalk one more up for big business, and -1 for quality.
If you guys want to cancel your Rogers and go over the air (OTA), the following forum will explain everything you want to know:

If you want to just go ahead and buy an antenna, and you live in the city, by this one. Been using it now for over a year, and it is the best indoor 'HD antenna' on the market.
