The entire discography of trance from 2004 to present could be deleted, and all its vinyl jettisoned into the sun, and very little would be lost. Why do all these producers make music with the exact same canned sounds? It's as if the next generation collected up about 30 samples and agreed to use nothing else.

Yeah, agreed, although "electronic music" is not very descriptive, since its like saying "quitar music". Its very generic since Deadmau5, Depeche Mode, Cabaret Voltaire and Vangelis all make/made "electronic music"! :wtf: I wouldn't label these artists together you know!
Kraftwerk belonged to a specific genre/scene which occured in germany during the 70s called "Krautrock" (an experimental, minimalistic and electronic sound that belonged to the broader "progressive rock" movement of the 70s). Its like saying Deadmau5 is house (or whatever), Depeche Mode is new-wave/synth-pop, Cabaret Voltaire is industrial etc. I just stated the genre they belonged.
