I'm reasonably content most of the time, but this sort of thing is always in the back of my mind.

While I can get into a rut and stress too much about things in the past and how I could have done something better, I eventually always get to the point where I realize that it's not worth it as you can't change anything and you just make yourself feel bad.

Now I find myself (most of the time) feeling as if the best part of my life is yet to come and that it will be absolutely ing amazing, but I can never quite get to it. It's as if it's always just around the corner but never within reach. Then again I am just turning 21 so got my life in front of me. Just frustrating being so close to all the good things yet not close enough.

Well, I'm 23. I realize that it's somewhat ridiculous for me to feel this way at my age.

But I still have those suspicions and can't rid myself of them.

And then it's an endless cycle of you just making yourself feel bad. What is that going to achieve? You can't change the past, but you sure can make the future better. Look forward, not back. I mean, looking back can sometimes be a good thing and reflecting is good as it helps you out, but don't dwell on mistakes of the past for too long. You're young, live life ;)

Seems like you're in a very retrospective mood today. all the topics you posted seem to reflect signs of unhappiness (dare I say... depression???)

I have feelings like this and often times feel a bit nostalgic, sad, depressed, etc. I sure do miss living in a smaller world - a world where I could stick my head in the sand and pretend the problems outside didn't exist. Nowdays, you can't escape it - it is blared at you 24x7. You also have information overload - internet, cell phones, cable TV, etc. all these things can make us "old geezers", people who remember what it was like to be without these things to feel nostalgic.

I'm at the same time envious of the new generation - they are exposed to all the things we never had in our childhood. For better or for worse. Personally, I think if I had access to the music production software that kids have access to today, my life would be totally different. I think i would be in a completely different place too.

at the same time, i feel our childhood may have been a bit more sheltered and safer - if for nothing else, we didn't know about all the crazies in the world and felt less afraid. I can't let my kid play outside by himself now that I am a parent. Meanwhile, I roamed the neighborhood alone when I was 5.

sigh. yes. I am nostalgic.

I love Italo Disco. I miss it. IT's good that it's making a come back now. I soooooo miss the 80's music.

This is actually a very good point. I'm only 21 but I did grow up in the 90s just before the change so I do relate more to the older crowd than I do to the newer kids these days. Anyone born in the 90s and later will never get to experience what life was like before this overload of technology. It's a bit sad really. I too roamed the neighbourhood easily at an even younger age than 5. If I was a parent, I wouldn't let a teenager go out by themselves these days lol.

Yep. Anyone middle class or higher, that is...

We always had computers when I was a kid, but none of them had the Internet until I was in middle school, which was also when my parents got cell phones. I got my first cell in high school.

Most of my free time as a young kid was spent playing outside, doing video games, or reading books. I dabbled with computers even then, though.

Now basically all my free time is spent either on the Internet or with my girlfriend. She's actually the only friend I have in San Antonio. Maybe that's part of my problem these days, that I have so much free time to sit around doing nothing and reminiscing. I don't know how the hell people make new friends anymore anyway. Seems like just about everybody is almost as glued to the computer as I am.

Tried going out? playing some team sports? clubbing? heheheh. though good friends are hard to find (locally).

p.s. I only had a numeric pager in HS. No cell phone until my freshman year in college (which cost me an arm and a leg and screwed up my credit history for next 7 years coz' i couldnt' pay).

not to mention that nowdays your HS girl can take a pic of her sweet parts and MMS you or webcam a hot dildo session with you... I had to rely on good ol' fashioned phone sex when I coudlnt score a direct impact.

Don't really like sports.

I've really been thinking about going lately, even though I have nobody to go with (gf hates pretty much all electronic music). I might try that.

Kind of hard to make new friends in that environment because of noise + intoxication factors, but it would probably at least be fun.
