i mentioned nothing about race. only income. its your racist mind that equated income with a certain ethnicity:o

Ironically enough, here in Vancouver it's the higher-end suburbs that are attracting more criminal elements. Those large houses make for great grow-ops/labs, and being tucked away in a 'nice' neighborhood decreases your shady profile.
i'm not talking about petty (or even large) theft. i'm talking about violent gang-related crime.

This may be true to some extent but I just don't see poor people moving into 6 bedroom/5 bathroom mansions in the wealthier suburbs. The cheaper suburbs..sure, its already been happening. As others mentioned, Chicago area is a good example of this. A friend of mine lives in Plainfield and she tells me of a drug house on her street :wtf:

There's a really easy solution to that: convert the huge houses into four or five apartments. My girlfriend lives in an "apartment" that was originally just a few rooms in a big old house.

it's been going on in manhattan and brooklyn for some time now
basically after the 80s when it was actually a cutting edge place, and after the city administration (esp giuliani) cleaned up the city and disney-fied it, a ton of boring white midwestern yuppies out of college came in and drowned out all of the counterculture and interesting artistic production

Er, the violent crime does follow the grow-ops into the 'burbs. Many of the execution-styled shootings that have happened in Vancouver this past year have been in respectable neighborhoods.

I believe it. Take downtown LA for example. It's an absolute looking area with loads of homeless around. The lofts sell for, at the very least, $800,000. These are like big (some not even that big) studio style lofts. The awesome ones, 1 or 2 bedroom with an upper loft area sometimes, are well over a million.

He made a "TED Talk" speech:

A lot of the biggest cities have always kept little enclaves of super-rich people -- New York, Chicago, LA, etc. But I think we might soon be seeing a trend of upper-middle class people moving to cities as well, or at least trying to turn their suburban nests into "imitation urban areas."

seems pretty natural really.
people moved to cities...
industrial revolution makes cities hot spots for labor jobs attracting low income workers to the areas...
because of the population change things such as crime follow...
suburban sprawl sees middle class families interested in raising a family move outside the city limits to improve their quality of life...
america transforms into a service oriented society and slowly replaces older industrial locations as labor moves out of the city...
track housing makes for cheap affordable housing...
social trends change and traditional family lifestyle is replaced with career-oriented individuals...
it becomes trendy to live in the city as a symbol of this lifestyle change...
gentrification forces up prices and poorer people are forced to move out of the cities...
they settle in older affordable track housing...
middle-class wants to escape again from the new crime and poverty so move back to the cities...

It has to be this way, evil property developers scare away the poor people except for a couple of die hards that refuse to budge, the Mystery Van and Scooby Doo comes along to save the day after revealing them for what they are.
Sadly the dirty hippies got busted for having a van full of pot, they end up in jail and Scooby gets put down for his snack habit being out of control. :happy2:
