Hugh Hectic, a.k.a. Speedy Thunderfingers, a.k.a. The 2 x 12” Numbered Limited Edition Kid, a.k.a. CabanaBoyardee, a.k.a. T.M.W.T.M.P. (a.k.a. “The Man With Too Many Pseudonyms”), once haggled for 286 consecutive hours with a shopkeeper over an autographed copy of an obscure Derrick May remix of Sha-Na-Na’s “Canadian Money”. In the end the shopkeeper paid Hugh $10 to take it off his hands – that’s how good this guys is… Rumours of eccentricity and deviant behaviour abound – the ritual worship of imported Finnish garden gnomes, and the controversial extra three fingers he had implanted on his right hand – claiming that he needed them “for all the dangerous rollin’ and controllin’ I’m about to unleash on y’all”. A truly unqiue dust speck on the microscope lens of life.
This fine specimen is known as Harmonika…ten times more mysterious than Mad Mike Banks (two scarves, a hat, *and* a hoodie? c’mon…) and one third as crazy as Paris The Black Fu (hey, that’s still pretty nuts...), this Toronto enigma is back after a six year hiatus. Harmonika first honed his devastating deck skills by following around a nomadic tribe of turntablists living in the Ural Mountains. He then proceeded to Japan to learn Zen Mix-Fu, but became sidetracked and was forced to work long hours in the knockoff sushi district, cutting cheap faux-crab (it’s whitefish, ya know…) for ten years just to be able to buy a plane ticket back home. We found him digging for discarded styli in a dumpster last week, dusted him off, and now we’re keeping our fingers crossed that he’ll remain upright for the entire evening. Bring a change of footwear and be prepared for the unprepared!

| Tomorrow's the big night - the feedback's been great and anticipation abounds! Looks like it might even be warm enough for *gasp* - patio action! I did mention Harmony has a sweet little patio in the back, right? :D |

From our mailout...
| quote: | | our version of Techno isn't relegated to this month's catchphrase - Detroit, Chicago, Electro, Booty, Italo, Disco, bangin', slammin', deep, dirty and naaaasty Funk, Funk, Funk - all get fair and equal treatment when we hit the decks. |
| quote: | | We hope to take you back to a time when Techno didn't mean minimalhardtechhousemicroglitch, or at least to when all of today's genre-fication could be summed up in one word - DEEP. |
Hope that covers it for you... |

Well, yes and know. i still have no idea of the sound of techno that id hear, anyways.
want to say though, if `deep techno`is to techno what `deep house`is to house, then ill HATE deep techno.
Deep house is one of the worst electronic musics as far as im concerned. i hate deep house. makes me frustrated and agitated to listen to it...
i really hope `deep` techno doesnt do that to me too. :clown: |

If you're not satisfied, we guarantee you your no-cover-charge back, no questions asked! :D
I all semi-seriousness, Hugh and I have a combined 35 years of d.j. experience between the two of us. I've played alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin, Roger Sanchez, DJ Godfather, Jim Masters, Kenneth Graham, Meat Katie and Chris Liberator - pretty diverse range of folk, and I like to think that the music I play reflects that diversity.
We're going to record the night, so if you don't make it out this time, you can taste test us before the May Pivot. Don't let that dissuade you from checking out the first one, though! |
