you make it sound like everyone thinks they need drugs to stay away. i've been clubbing off and on for 9 years and i've never once taken anything and i generally close out the party. it isn't a novelty. as for your comment about mash ups go listen to markus schulz i think he does nice mash ups although i would agree with you i liked the way steve and sebastian or shall i say sebastian (because he's better) work it behind the decks. |
no no i didnt mean it like that, i meant it for the people who need the drugs to last the night or to enhance their time at a party, it was in no way directed to the people who dont do drugs. As for mashups one of the craziest dj's out there with mashups is Andy C, playing 3 tracks at once for a minute or so is simply amazing skill!! |

Markus' mashups are great but often done by pre-production - A&I had a lot of raw mixing skill and there was more flair used to mashup on the fly (though some of them were produced too). that said, it is not a criticism of markus since his style is more progressive so it suits and sounds best to do this way, conversely someone like Laidback luke is really skilled for scratching and fast cuts but it occassionally takes away from the flow of the set.
there is something to be said for having both technical abilities and strong fundamentals of track mixing being harnessed together for a balance which is what we got last night. earlier parts of the set when they spun back to back was more technically interesting, but once seb had left steve worked a lot more progressively with the flow and grooves.
andy c is great, but hype schools him from a technical point of view (just listen to Fabriclive 18 Andy C & DJ Hype - it's so distinct there isn't any contest). i'm still waiting to hear a house dj that can double-drop like hype, now that would be gold |

| i think Hype is only better at andy c when it comes to scratching, Andy C can double drop too witnessed that when Andy c came to republik not too long ago. I will check out that set, what year is it? |

uh...ever heard of Bad Boy Bill???
His old style though...
And you guys never got to hear Mark a few years back when he'd play one track and mix in excerpts from 2 other decks at the same time...
And Addy playing on 3 decks almost constantly???
Please... |

I was anticipating this party more than any of the others so far this year... I unfortunately wasn't able to make it to Sasha & Digweed, and although I hear Digweed ripped it up, I've seen both dj's seperately and would only have felt really bad if I had missed them together, till next time I guess..
What can I say.. I arrived at the club at around 12:30.. the music was good but of course Angello and Ingrosso were still warming up... and I knew the set could only get better... and it did...
From around 2:30am until I left(6:15am) I could not stop moving !! (no drugs involved).. the music and mixing was great, and I love how Steve and Sebastian were so full of energy, proving that they actually appreciated Toronto and it's partiers.. there's no better feeling than a Dj you love is having a great time in your own city, and doesn't hesitate to show it..
I was even able to get my buddies who wanted to leave at 4:00am to stay an extra 2 hours.. and I didn't even have to beg them, the music and energy definitely worked as a magnet to keep them dancing and provide a sense of timelessness..
Songs that made the place go wild included:
Sharam- Get Wild
Diamond Life accapella over Eric Prydz- Muranyi
Robyn- Show Me Love
Eric Prydz- Pjanooo
Knight & Funkagenda- Shogun
and a few others.. including the harder stuff that was played towards the end.. it would have been nice to have been able to stay till 7am but I stll thoroughly enjoyed myself, as did the people I was with.. best party of the year for me so far =)
oh and btw some friends of mine asked me to visit them in the Acid Lounge for a bit.. i only stayed for a couple of minutes because I didn't wanna miss much Angello/Ingrosso... but I must admit the music in there was Wicked, well during the short period of time I was in there at least.. and I don't remember the Acid Lounge EVER being that crazy !! Kudos to the Dj's spinnin in there as well..
Lastly, I wish I had brought my digital camera... instead I have a bunch of ty quality videos that I took with my Motorola Razr, haha.. thanks to the guy who uploaded his vids though !! They were great!! |

heard 'em all. i didn't say that there aren't others who can do it, maybe that was directed at someone else's earlier comments, but it's fair to say that relatively few internationally acclaimed djs really utilise the decks to their full capabilities. |

andy c is a great dj for sure, i prefer his sets (2005 Essential Mix!) to hype for track selection and overall enjoyment and he can double drop well i agree, but i've heard some insane mixing from hype. like you say he pretty much pioneered scratching at 180bpm, but his sound gets a bit oppressive after a while, andy is good to go for two hours or so.
the set i menioned is actually part of the Fabriclive CD series, one of the best mixes i've heard, both guys are amazing on it. also check out D&B essentials triple album by hype - disc 1, track 2 is a double-drop melodic reconstruction of Clipz-Slippery Slope |

LOL...brain fart. After you said that I realized that the same Robyn Also has a track called Show me Love (but not the old Robin tune we're talking about).
