To hell with firewire

I have a M-Audio Firewire 410 and some of you might say well hey thats your problem there.

That may be true, but

Today is the second time this device has killed my P.C.
First time I came home from vacation and turned the computer off without properly shutting it down. I turn the computer back on and I get no video.

I finally diagnose it that if I clear the CMOS it will give me video, but than I connect the 410 to it, and I get no video again.

So that motherboard doesn't like it...

Than I decide to try and make the thing work once more. After this time the computer never could be "jump started" to get me video.

New board and memory later (both bad), my computer works. Firewire 410 works and all.

Today I leave for school, and turn the monitors back on, and look no video once again, power down. No video once again, and even clearing the CMOS...no video.

Does anyone else have any stories about firewire to share and how it has wrecked hundreds of dollars of computer components?

True story:
My home computer is a hp/amd64 media pc.(decent for what i need it for) Well I decided because I was lazy hit the strip(all my cords plugged into) off button when I felt like it because I was too lazy to turn off the computer properly as you said. Well after a number of times(maybe 1 week or less??) same old story including 100$ and 1 week later it was fixed.(had to reload programs ugghhhh)

simce then and now with any computer I would shut down I go to start-->Turn off computer-->turn off-->wait patiently untill the screen goes black and then I hit the off button on the strip.

Peace.

You just can't be ing around with that Firewire 410 hooked up to your computer. There are warnings from M-Audio warning me of this same .
