Principle over practicality

So my gf got a ticket today driving my car with a dead headlight.

i explained to the officer that I was going to mazda to get my winter tires off and get that light replaced (which is true).

he ended up giving her a ticket for $110 anyways, but since he was SO nice, he said "just come into court with a receipt saying you got your headlight replaced and i'll tear up the ticket"

So, if we take him up on the offer, i'll have to take a day off work and end up losing more than $110, just so i can "stick it to the man." Seems so trivial, but i duno.

That is being pretty dang nice. Sucks about the timing, though. :(

There is no such thing as 'sticking it to The Man'. They don't care. In the end, The Man always wins.

it was sarcasm.

Hmmm around here you can go to the police station and show them that you took care of it and will write it off. No need to get the court involved. Not sure about Canada though. Seems like a waste of tax payers money to hold court over a headlight.

You reckon he'll even remember you, or that he said he'll tear up the ticket if you show the receipt?

For $110 , I'd put a cap in his ass .

it's been my experience that most offenses like that will get thrown out if you prove that you've taken care of the problem. stuff like tinted windows, expired license plate, no village sticker, etc.

It probably says on the ticket "No fine if proof of repair in xx days". One time my friend went to the police station and went up to the window where you pay the ticket and said he got his headlight fixed, they didnt even check it, they just stamped his ticket and gave him a reciept that said it was taken care of.

Ohh, and 1. [point edited out, i reread the original post] and 2. why do you assume its going to take an entire day to pop the hood, unclip the light fixture, unscrew the old bulb, screw in the new one, reclip the light fixture, and then close the hood? Just go to an auto store in your area and buy the bulb you need, then find a mechanics garage and give them a few bucks to throw it in if you don't want to do it yourself.

And it wouldn't be 'sticking it to the man', it would be taking care of the problem. If you just pay it and don't get it fixed, you can just get another ticket.

I got the same thing........He was brown as well didnt go like hey since ur brown I'll let you go but please fix it asap and I was also in my Law enforcement uniform 4:00 in the morning.

Double Fail:(

he just wants to go to court for the overtime i've decided.

so i'm just going to pay the ticket.
