i don't think that could be true... if anything on the contrary. earbuds kind of just plug in your ear so they are pretty good at canceling outside noise, so there is no need to blast your headphones. if you blast any headphones, whether they be earbuds or regular headphones (or any stereo really), then you run the risk of damaging your ears. |

due to popular vote - i am going with the cx300's. i actually had a pair of sony earbuds which weren't too bad, but the rubber around the wire is pretty shabby and at this point is falling off completely, leaving the wire completely exposed. so it's good to hear that these are durable as well. thanks everyone for your input! :) |

I am an audiophile. Senn CX300 FTW.
note: please be sure to use an appropriate source. i.e. not an ipod.
thanks, |

I bought cheap Sennheisers a couple days ago, it says the model is MX260. They were something like 10-15 euros.
The sound is pretty clear but I'm not entirely sure if I like them, I'm just too used to the Sonys which seem to have great bass. Well, maybe they just artificially crank that bass higher than it should.
Either way, problem with the Sonys is that they never ever seem to last more than a couple months, the bass gets all distorted after a while. My guess is that it's my fault from taking them to the beach and it getting sand inside, but still. The jury is still out on how reliable these Sennheisers will be. |

Durability and bass?
Hehehehehehe, that's exactly what the CX300's are known for ;)

Ah yes the old "iPod is a rubbish sound source" argument. It's rubbish that's what it is, I don't care how much of an audiophile you are. Portable mp3 players may not be God's gift to man but the iPod is no worse or better than the plethora of others you can buy on the market. In fact, the newer generation ones are up towards the upper end of good quality portable mp3 players. |

just in case anyone else is using this information to buy some headphones... BE CAREFUL when buying CX300's online. I just ordered a pair from the amazon marketplace and they ended up being counterfeits. some are extremely hard to tell the difference (i had to end up measuring the cord length to see if it matched up to what sennheiser's site says). the guy is acting like he didn't know, and is going to check with the company he got them from. he said if they are counterfeits he'll give me a full refund and i can keep the headphones.
so make sure you don't buy them from any random merchants! |

get cx300 at a frigging department store. Never buy em from ebay or whatever. Its the most faked earphones out there because its the best it terms of value for money. I'm surprised you just found out AFTER you bought it. |

well i noticed on ebay they were going for $1 so i knew something was up. so i read into it a bit and looked at amazon, and assumed they were more legit there (prices were no where near as ridiculous as on ebay).
in the end, i ended up getting the same $1 headphones... but for $35  . major fail. this guy is most likely giving me a refund though. i think they care more about me not leaving feedback saying he's a fake, rather than losing a pair of $1 headphones. |

| Damn.. just went to check the prices and the CX300 are 45 euros over here. I'm all up for audio quality but that seems way too expensive for something like this. I wouldn't be comfortable in taking those things everywhere, worried that it could break, lol. |
