What are your thoughts? I personally hope they come to fruition. VW is currently working on one for the European market. The world already uses them in freight and most passenger trains.

Not gonna work too well anymore as Diesel is now more expensive than petrol :(

Anyway, these hybrids arent getting that good MPG.

Wouldn't the reasoning be that diesel fuel is more efficient starting the car? Cause thats when there's the biggest strain on an electric car, thats where gas is most needed. Seems like a good idea

Well, to be honest, I am not much a fan of hybrids in general. Petrol hybrids especially, are a total waste. I'd much prefer a diesel-electric hybrid over it any day. I personally think that fuel cell technology is probably where the alternative fuel of the future is at.

The biggest problem with electric motors, is the drain at high rpm's with very little change in output for that given size of electric motor.

If there have to be hybrids then diesels are the way to go. At least untilč hydrogen powered cars come into play.

exactly my view.

I have no idea how diesel could cost more than regular petrol as I thought diesel was supposedly less-refined than regular petrol therefore costing less money to produce.

Someone elucidate me!

Well with the advent of ULS, or Ultra-Low Sulfer, diesel prices have skyrocketed. It is still, by far, cheaper than petrol per mile, but not as much as it used to be.
