| i remember meeting matt and gilbert for a quick second in the club friday. i was in no condition the rest of the weekend to make it to avalon. sunday went to the cluster that was the standard and decided never to go back! |

great weekend in LA! might as well put the review/adventures in here rather than the multiple josh, svd, sk @ avalon threads..
nice to get weather actually cooler than SF lately, although i know some others wanted to chill by the pool a bit more.
between being too wasted and not being able to put together real names with nick names with faces from photos.. i still came across a few LATAs
boardners was cool, interesting set-up. rizo and i finished up a bottle a tequila right outside before heading in. then i was introduced by a friend's friend to a "gorilla fart" shot: 151 and wild turkey!! great sets by both josh and taj! when taj got on, around 15 of us SFTAs were totally representin', owning all of the front of the dance floor.. unfortunately all the fun was kind of cut short when club shut down at 2:30 and security was very quick clearing everyone out. that was a bit of a buzzkill with the SFTAs not used to the partying ending so early, and we weren't sure about any readily available after hours spots (in SF we always have the end up and sometimes insomnia to fall back on)... so the arty went back to our hotel.
saturday, the SFTAs split up for the first part of the night between svd and kleinenberg, but eventually most everyone ended up at avalon to hear taj. i went straight to avalon (my first time there). cool venue and it was mentioned that this was some new/modified setup.. whatever it was, it seemed like a natural fit. 16 bit lolitas were alright. i appreciated the set, but wasn't rocking out to it. then kleinenberg was awesome, definitely more of my thing than svd, so i have no regrets about missing svd. that's the most active listening i've done in a club in a while... listening to the mixing, the individual tracks, individual sounds, etc. it was almost a late late night set, so not sure if the crowd knew what to do with it.. wasn't quite enough room to dance around, and wasn't quite jump up and down trance style.
checked out the terrace early in the night when it was pretty empty, and it was a bit awkward with the tiled floor making it sound echo-y like a bathroom, but that was remedied when the place filled up. went back up right before 3am to check out taj, and he started up just right, representing SF with "at the end up".
then went back to check on kleinenberg a little later with the place still pretty full, and finally left to catch a sunday 8am flight.
only complaints about the weekend is all that comes with the hollywood crowd: the douche-bags, long lines, security, parking, cover charges, etc., but on the other hand, it's to be expected and mostly made up for by the grander scale of things in LA/hollywood. it's just a lot less work partying more often in SF. |

+ 2 & 3 on that. We just got back and need some serios down time to regroup and recoup...But we will say that we had an AMAZING time with everyone and we are so glad so many TAs made it!!!!! |
