It's much easier making one device that can try to cater to all the different buyers than to make a single-function device or one for Ableton, Traktor, decks. Once you add in MIDI, then there's no reason to stop at a few controls, and so that's why they keep adding more. With both Ableton and Traktor, it's beneficial to have an external soundcard, and having it all one box is nice, too. The only thing that doesn't always logically follow is the inclusion of a traditional audio mixer, but that's what A&H have historically made, right? Might as well add that in, too.

You end up with an all-in-one box with a ton of features that resulted from feature-creep that tries to cater to all. This way, they can also sell it at a premium price, and people will still buy it.

isnt that what you were supposed to do lol

i think thats where korg really hit it. the whole board lights up and from what sasha said its actually a really nice piece. it is pretty bright to from when i seen sasha play on it a couple weeks ago. but they don't have any korgs around here t check out because all of the knobs look pretty cheap in the pics and thats no good when your talkn 2000. great layout though

What the hell are they making their knobs look like those on the DJM-800 for?

If you US guys get lucky, it might be a bit under that. DJ gear is on average 20% cheaper than in Europe. And err, I'll keep my analogue Xone thank you.

i dont know why they didnt do this in the first place

I guess you have to ask yourself what you really want to accomplish with this thing... I think it's better suited to traktor than ableton.

The problem with the 3D when I had it was that using it to mix "in the box" (MIDI faders mapped to ableton, eq's mapped to ableton, etc.) felt horrible. Those studio style MIDI faders on either side are really too short for mixing, and when MIDI mapped the curve was awful. Plus you only have 2 knobs for eq's per channel, unless you map out something weird.

If you then choose to mix "out of the box" (routing 4 audio channels, each to a mixer channel in the middle), you wind up with all these faders on either side that aren't overly useful. The jog wheels also aren't exactly necessary in ableton (though using one for clip scrubbing is kinda cool).

Looking at the Vestax VCM-600, it's already layed out perfectly for ableton. And even labeled as such. You need a soundcard as well, but you can route into any mixer available.

For Traktor use, this looks more compelling to me. 4 decks running with timecode, using the traktor scratch certified soundcard in it (no need for the audio 8 interface), and using all those knobs and faders for effects and loop control seems cool.
