The Hybrid videos (amongst other things) have inspired me to check out Reaktor.

Anyone have any experience with Reaktor? is it worth splashing out on it?

The only downside i have read so far, is that i cant rewire it into Ableton Live (or its extremely difficult at the least)

i've used it a bit. to be honest, i can't really be bothered piecing together my own synths and so forth, so i just used pre-made ensembles. reaktor is fantastic if you want to make really complex sounds or emulate something specifically, but i don't think it can compete with some other synths (korg legacy, massive) in terms of general quality. obviously the more time that is spent on all the doowacky features occurs at the expense of making really powerful oscillators and so on... same goes for z3ta. z3ta was probably the most comprehensive synth made in that time, but the oscs and filters weren't that great.

then you have the effects side of it... all the traditional style fx (phasing, flange, distortion etc.) are covered already so reaktor really only fills the void with really weird effects (as you can see in the hybrid video). obviously this doesn't suit all genres.

so yeah...
for trance and other really synthetic genres - reaktor is awesome.
for house and cookie-cutter electro, you could do better with others imo.

not saying hes a bad producer, just saying the video was funny. likewise, when ian carey puts 20 million compressors on his master.

Not watched this video yet but I remember an interview with Hybrid where they said they liked to use multiple compressors to gently harden a sound - applying slightly more compression each time. I'm sure the sonic characteristic of the compressor also had alot to do with this technique.

yep, using stacked compression is a very common technique... i've just NEVER heard of anyone using THAT many lol. he used like 5-6 or so, including the limiter.

Know of any sites with more detail on stacked compression?
