Soz if your not supposed to post like this in here?
I have downloaded FTP Surfer and I want to let someone Log into my FTP to download MP3's from me.
I think that my IP is NOT 'static' I think it changes everytime I log on to the internet - do I need to change this to a 'static' IP address and basically tell whoever it is that will be logging into my FTP the IP address, give them a password etc and then we are good to go ???
Any links to sites that I can learn this on would be helpful as well :D
Cheers

| As for making your IP 'static', just use http://dns2go.deerfield.com/, you'll have a domain that always redirects your visitors to your IP. It's really useful. :) Click the link to learn more. |

Personally I use WarFTP, you can get it at http://www.warftp.org. I havent tried Serv-U though, it can't be that bad either. Give them a try, and you'll see ;) |

Anyways.. The client is the one with which you connect to an ftp server.
I think you were searching for an ftp server program, such as warftp, and serv-u... :) the one that makes your computer an ftp server, so that others can connect to you, via their ftp client.... :)
Hope it was understandable :D :happy2: |

Yeah I can understand your being very helpful :D
So there are 2 types of FTP a client and a server program.
The client is just to connect to other people FTP servers
The server one is for when people connect to me - which you were correct in saying thats what I want to do
So I'm now going to try the link you gave me for the server one and use it. I take it the server can be used to connect to others as well?
Thanks for your help :D
