Jay Selway & Magnus - "Stronghold"

I got onto this track from J00F's new CD.

I think it's amazing.

Does anyone have any idea when this is going to be released? I'm desperate for a copy; can't find one anywhere (can't even find a sample for this thread!)

Anyway, I digress...

I've been thinking recently about how psy is gaining more and more popularity, and how one of two things may happen:

_______________________________________________________________

a) psy trance becomes the new McTrance, which I suppose you could say has already happened in some ways (i.e Yahel's cheesy work).

b) Straight trance will take influence from, and gradually mesh with psy, as this track does, improving it's sound and eventually going to more driving, hypnotic areas.

_______________________________________________________________

I'm holding out for B, obviously. I raised this briefly in an interview with Simon Patterson the other day (here), who I think seems to be a producer going this way, even if you don't like his work. (I like his new track, Smack)

Though Stronghold is pretty epic, with a big build-up, I think it uses a great set of unique sounds, and has a strong melody. It's not very psychedelic at all and wouldn't sound out of place in a "regular" trance set, really.

I'm hoping that more and more producers can start doing stuff like this.

Thoughts?

Both a) and b).

as long as uplifting producers don't start producing psy trance we shouldn't be worried.

I'm with you on holding out for B, although I could definitely see A happening which would definitely be disappointing. If the meshing with psytrance was to actually occur to an extent and lead trance back into a deeper, darker, more hypnotic area I'd be very pleased.

too bad what Simon Patterson said in that interview about Panic Attack and Strip Search. Those were by far his best tracks along with F16.

"I spent so long on Panic Attack and Strip Search, but people never really got them. I think they went over people’s heads and I made a conscious decision to not spend so much time on tracks and change the sound a bit. Bulldozer and Smack are the definitely the direction I am heading, but I need to change it up a bit again."

Panic Attack and Strip Search are really damn good tunes, his 'techy' electro is crap IMO

check out prospers stuff for psy producer doing stuff that can now be put into 'normal' trance sets.
