ok i have this WEIRD problem with 2 live sets i have...

I go and play them in WINAMP and
when i fast forward or rewind the "KBPS" goes from 128k to 130k to 140k and keeps changing around....

WHY?????

this is a problem cus i listen in WINAMP to decide where i want to start a new track, but when i rewind to double check the time one minute it will be at 1 song, at a certain time, and then when i rewind to that same part the KBPS changes and its at a completely different song BUT AT THE SAME TIME in the set...

whats going on??
jonsimmonds
chances are the live set was encoded into varibal bit rate (VBR)

can i fix it?????

because i cant figure out where a track begins cus it keeps chaning around./...1 moment a track at say 43:20 is fine but the next moment i go to 43:20 and its not that same track...makes it impossible to cut up this set...

can i fix this?

yep, it's a VBR mp3. i hate those ******s.

get the mp3 output plugin from winamp.com, and play the mp3 through that, and set the output to be the max of the VBR, probably 192 to be safe.

the file will be bigger, but it won't jump around like that.

BTW, i thought you were leaving trance addict for six months?

so that plugin will make me a NEW MP3 of the set??

i am scared that i will put times in for new tracks and then when i go and burn this set the times will be off because of the way it jumps around.....

i have this problem with MORPH - Maximum Overdrive (Orginal 3rd Mix) mp3. The problem is, its not 128, 160, 192, or 256 etc. Its something in between. In winamp if u rite click and go to file info, in the bottom left hand corner it will give some details including the true bitrate.

In my case its 233kbit (VBR) just like jonsimmonds said above.

im not sure if this would work, but u could convert it to wav, and then re-encode it to the closest bitrate to what uve just found on the File Info section. Ie. in my case i would just choose 192.

hope this is of any help

peace:)
