DJs who have died

Not to be morbid, but... the recent threads about Barry Connell and Human Adams dying got me thinking.

You often hear of rock/hip hop musicians and actors dying, whether it be drugs, alcohol, car/ tour bus accidents, even plane crashes (if you count Patsy Cline, Bob Denver, Buddy Holly). But you never really hear about our DJs or producers dying.

I'm surprised there aren't more DJs dying when you consider the drugs, alcohol, traveling, remote locations and lifestyle that goes along with the job. I remember Tony de Vit died from AIDs and some guy from the Shaman (?) drowned on an E.

Can anyone think of any other DJs or producers who have died (and have any thoughts why there aren't more)?

I don't want to post a dead list, but i'm glad to see Picotto isn't on X every time he plays nowadays.

And why am i thinking Villalobos when i read that title :(

Edit: I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish Ricardo all the best.

tony de vit had aids, but didn't die from it. He died due to bronchial pneumonia & bone marrow failure, although the aids probably made his body much weaker.

I dont know why, but I have a feeling most DJ's are straighter arrows than we are lead to believe. Most of the successful DJ's seem to be very business about what they do, with a few wild out moments here and there. Im talking about Digweed, PvD, Satoshi Tommiie, Tiesto, Masiello, Howells, Deep Dish, Carl Cox, AvB...outside of someone wanting to kill them or sabotage, they seem to be living as safe a lifestyle as any of us. Especially since there are more chances you can die driving a car than sitting in a plane.

Most people who have full blown aids die of some respiratory illness, usually pneumonia. It starts as a cold, then moves to bronchitis, then pneumonia... the body cannot fight it with a fledgling immune system. I've witnessed this its very very sad to see.

Will Sinnott, the bass player, drowned in the ocean while they were filming a video in 1991. I've never heard anything to say it was a drug-related death.

I don't know is anyone remembers Shiva, who was a house vocalist in the mid-90s. She died in a car accident in 1995 near the beginning of her career. A couple of weeks later her single Freedom was a Top 20 hit in the UK, with a fantastic remix by BT that ensured that I won't forget her, at least.

Psytrance producer Cosma died in a motorcycle accident in 2003.

Victor Zolotorenko (Zolod) from Parasense died in January 2006

Markus Lofell known as Mark Spoon from the famous classic trance duo Jam and Spoon, died from a heart-attack in 2006 at the age of 39.

James Stinton of the enigmatic Detroit Techno/Electro duo Drexciya died of a heart-attack as well in 2002.

Another good epic/progressive Trance producer, John Horrocks known as Jon Vesta and involved in aliases such as Amethyst (anybody remember those massive 1997 prog-trance tracks "Krakatoa", "Futura" and "Tempest"?) , Poloroid, Quest etc. sadly commited suicide in 2001. "Jon Vesta" was famous of his '99 prog/epic trance hit "Gull" which appeared as the A-side of an excellent double-sided vinyl "Gull/Bluestone" on the short-lived label "Stonehouse records".

According to a Discogs reviewer:

Jon Vesta - Gull is a track that was made famous during Paul Oakenfold's Essential Mix at Gatecrasher Lotherton Hall on 19/6/1999

Pete Tong yelled those famous words "NICE ONE BRUVA! I SAID NICE ONE" during the epic breakdown of this track.

"Gull" could be considered to be a classic progressive trance track, and it is highly recommended.

But enough with these morbid threads!

Henrik Klein Rasmussen aka Little Jam commited suicide 1997. He was responsible for tunes as "Black hill", "The great bear" and "flaming star". Truly a talented producer.
