How can we let people that have a hidden face walk around? Its not only about hold ups, but every other petty crime that is easier to commit too.

+1 :D

hey, I heard once that a would-be thief threatened to hit their victim with their detached bicycle seat. omg, ban bicycle seats!!!

this is so stupid...

and it's stupid paranoia that clothing manufacturers are making slash and bullet resistent backpacks, hoodies, etc. to capitalize on public paranoia about violence.

get ready for the news story where some 8 yr old kid puts on the "bulletproof" hoodie and his buddy takes his dad's gun and shoots him to see what happens, ending in a fatal bloody mess. then the father of the dead kid will sue the clothing company...and win (if it's the U.S.)

ya heard it here first ;) (actually I think it was brought up in an old thread when the backpacks and hoodies were talked about).

Dont you usually support bans of all types "in the name of greater good?"

Whats different about this one?

I see it as just as intrusive and disruptive as the other recent examples of attacks on our personal liberties that you seem to support.

Shouldn't the private citizen have a right to walk the streets anonymously? I just read an article that the average person gets caught on CCTV 300 times a day, typically without their knowledge or consent. Big brother is watching...

that means u should ban anything that covers your face ie. ski masks, masks, etc

Ditto. Agree. Retarded. Dont agree w/ any idea for a ban of them.

Why, you could accomplish the same with ski masks.

And robbers, thieves, criminals have been doing that for decades. Why havent we ever talked about banning THEM??

They're allowing crime to happen anomalously too! OMGz

How can you deny anyone's basic human right to cover their face?

Oh, right, we could have some 'guardians' of morality to enforce it.

um, since when have I claimed to be a utilitarian who advocates banning anything for 'the greater good'? quite the contrary...I advocate judging each case on its own merits with general principles guiding those decisions. I've long said that we can, as a rational society, judge a case on its own merits and draw a line.

halloween masks are used in crime ALL the time...we don't ban halloween. drunk drivers kill people every day in North America...we don't ban alcohol.

I can only assume you're trying to demonstrate some inconsistency on my part, but you've failed to do so here ;)
