Recently got a cracked windshield from a hwy stonechip and a broken fog lamp. Having some issues with the "glass claims" dept. of my insurer, TD Meloche Monnex. There's a discrepency btwn the labour rate that their appraisors approve and that the BMW dealership that I frequent charges.

I need some detailed help, would either of you mind contacting me as I've PM'd you my contact info?

THANKS!!!! Perhaps we can carry on an intelligent discussion here once the problem is solved (has to be immediate as I'm dropping off the car tmrw morning and have to decide whether I pay the total now and claim later or just pay the deductible now and let the insurance guys do their thing.

Main issue is the fact that I want OEM parts and my policy allows aftermarket parts, however in this case the OEM is cheaper than aftermarket but the labour rate is causing the issue (because BMW charges $125 vs. appraisor's market rate of abt. $45).

As per my PM....craig will be the guy to talk to about this....he actually works very closely with TD.

While we're on the topic...are there any reputable policies/brokers/insurance companies that deal with auto insurance on a month-to-month basis?

I imagine that it would be more expensive as well?

Do you mean selling policies for a one month term or billing monthly?

There aren't too many insurers willing to sell a one month policy. You may want to contact a Lloyd's broker since they are the most likely to take on such a policy; however, anyone wanting a policy for such a short time is a big red flag... chances are the one month policy will be at an increased premium. If you only want insurance for one month then your best bet is to purchase a policy, then cancel it (in writing) after that month... once you terminate a policy the insurer has to return any "unearned" premium to you. This means that if you hold the policy for a month you will receive roughly 11/12ths back (I say roughly because all policies are slightly front-end loaded to account for the costs of issuing the policy). One word of caution though... if you do this a couple of times your insurance record will show it... which raises eyebrows, eventually insurers will charge you increased premium because they are taking on a greater risk (the whole risk thing for short-term policies is too messy and complex to get into here).

Fahad, did everything get worked out for you?

Re: One month policy.

How about renting a small car with one of those premium/platinum cards instead? The ones that provide insurance for you... Might work out cheaper?

Just throwing it out there...

A one month rental is usually in the $1000 range.

No, the glass claims office in Mtl wasn't cooperating with the higher labour rate being charged by the dealer. Apparently BMW dealers do glass repair in-house. I actually watched the mechanic do the initial glass removal. Anyway, I will pay the tab up front and make the claim after the fact; the Mtl office faxed me a copy of their work order which shows a total payout amount. I will use that as support for my claim (it matches the amount that the dealer is charging me, except the labour rates are off, of course). Hopefully I'll get everything less the deductible and the insurer doesn't raise a stink about the labour rate the way the Mtl glass office did.
