In Remembrance: Club Phoenix

Well, after AJ's post in the hiring dj/promoter thread for london, I realized that its been a year to the day that Phoenix shut down.

Phoenix was the first nightclub I had ever been to and being one for the clubs, i was instantly hooked. I soon found myself going every week and was soon recognized by staff and patrons. This was how I came across club promotions. I was recommended by one of the bouncers to start doing club promos there. So soon I began my weekly ventures pushing Kegstand Thursdays and Livewire Saturdays. The place became my home and soon found myself spending a little too much time there. When the club shut down a year ago, primarily due to bad publicity and ty management, I felt a part of me vanish. Much to the same effect of those of you missing Sonic (although phoenix was no where near Sonic's level).

Many Djs have played there including Mark Oliver, Chus and Ceballos, Benassi, Hatiras, Barato, Lio, Joee Cons, Simon Jain, Andy Reid, Donald Glaude, Jelo, Sydney Bu, Max graham, Yanick Coen and many more. The venue itself was set up for EDM. A stage like dj booth with a mini balcony to the side for dancers, vip booths along the right, go-go dancing tables, a back balcony for vips, an upper mezzanine overlooking the main floor, a huge patio that was multi leveled, and The Pad (which soon became the sketch pad) which was a dark lounge which became the home to many of London's house heads in its last year of operation. On top of that, there was Bruteman lol who was the "host" of the night doing interviews and taking photos for the night which he would then post online. People could use the website to check live feeds from the club to see what was going on. I often used it to see if the club was busy yet.

anyways, enough about me and here's to the good times I and many others had at London's true nightclub. Since then, there have been many new venues, all which have failed to do what Phoenix had done. (Esp capacity.. phoenix was approx 1500, closest now is about 650).
