The latest version is really really potent, this upgrade didn't feel like a waste at all. I love it! |
it still doesnt have decent multi-core support though :P
however, i still love it :) |

Wow! Thanks! I'll take all those in mind. I think I'm going to download the demos right now (is any of these a freeware?). |
You can find A LOT of freeware, and a lot of good quality freeware here. The website itself has a good collection and the forums are helpful. This website pretty much has answers to all your questions. By the way, good early production track.

FLStudio should support any VSTs... |

| OK, thanks. I'm so new to this, that I don't even know what is a VST :( (checking out wikipedia...) |

mixing = mixmeister pro/fusion
track production = definitely ableton live! even though it's quite hard to use. I've tried Fruityloops and the stuff I made from it seem so basic.
PvD uses ableton |

With hard what do you mean? A non intuitive GUI? |
|

with hard I mean harder than mixmeister, fruityloops, cubase etc

btw I wouldn't really recommend cubase since it can be used for more than just trance tracks and I have nightmares from using it in music classes at my school. @_@
EDIT: Btw if you have a mac then also consider buying Logic Studio
PVD, Sean Tyas use them. |

Well, I use an IBM T43 Laptop with an Intel Pentium M, 2 GHZ, 1 Gig of RAM. I use a factory sound card and a Best Buy grade stereo. Despite all this, my comes out sounding fine, so obviously you don't need very much.
That said, if you have a good sound card, a decent processor, a whole lot of RAM and an excellent sound system, you're better off.
As far as the actual program goes, don't do FL if it doesn't suit you. I'd go with the rest of the thread on Reason if you're not looking to spend a lot of money. However, if you can afford to put more into it, Cubase and Logic are both good, as well. |

Better still, don't use software, just hardware! (oldschool!)
Is this Armin? Nah this guy is way better...
(ofcourse you would need some money in order to buy all the equipment...!) |
I'm not very impressed by that guy to be honest. Not that I can do it better, I don't play synths.
IMO you really need a combination of hardware and software.
And yes it will cost a lot. A friend of mine, who produces for fun has a nice list of his equipment which took him a lot of years to save and gather.

For this track I know they used a real electric guitar. |
