I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around how it works. I think it'd help if I could see it

i dunno about a demo, but it's basically a very simple looper.

you can record 6 samples, and then loop them... and then play them, one at a time, or one over the other. you can even record one sample and then record another over it to mash-up two samples... but it's hard to get 2 or more together and not make it sound like complete garbage.

pretty useless thing, if you ask me.

I think you just don't know how to use it.

Very useful in my mind, especially for looping acapellas or parts of quote en quote 'minimal' techno, intro percussion, basslines, melodies - really whatever you'd like.

It's only useless if you aren't creative enough to learn how to make use of it - just like an EFX unit, laptop, etc.

Ya I want to be able to loop sections of vinyl records. My question is though, does it need its own channel on the mixer?

Eye of the beholder, and it's all in who's using it. You really don't get to define something as better or worse just because you think there's something out there you'd prefer to use.

Some guys are still better with vinyl than anyone on CD's. Are they idiots for not using the "better" medium? What about kids who buy EFX units and use them to look pretty? Sure, they can do a bunch, but who the cares if they aren't doing anything with it?

The question wasn't about whether or not you thought it was worthwhile, it was how it's used, and to me - you panning it as useless for no reason other than the fact that you can't use one without making it sound like only says that you can't use it without it sounding like . Nothing else.

She grabs a 1 beat loop from the outgoing track which makes the bass note on that one beat repeat quickly, brings it in, and kills that when the incoming track drops fully.

right! hence why i said "IF YOU ASK ME" because if you ask someone else... well they're likely to tell you something different... just as you have yourself right there...

but no one's teaching you how to read rob. if there are any other parts of my sentence you'd like to skip over then go right ahead.

to the original poster - i find things like EFX1000 and/or Ableton Live are capable of performing the same things as C-loops and quite a few more tricks and are a much better investment. but again - that's just me - you should try different equipment and figure out what's best for you. the local guitar center is gracious enough to have these things on display for me and let me try them out before i purchase anything. scope out stores like that nearby you and see if you can do the same.
