I'm moving on to a new machine and using Cubase SX3...I've done it before and it was very painfull regarding transferring projects/vst's/presets.

Is there an easy way to do this?

you must reinstall every program one by one... or there are a lot of missing registry entries and so forth.

in regarsd to projects, you should always keep them "stand alone". whenever i finish a project, i make sure ALL audio files are inside the project folder and that i save a copy of every patch for every vst in the project folder too. this way your project is entirely recallable.

on your new pc... get a dedicated music hard drive, or create a partition. change the drive letter to "z:\". labelling it "Z" (end of the sequence) ensures no other drives will interrupt the labelling heirarchy. this way, when you reinstall or whatever... EVERYTHING will be on z:\ and all the dependencies will work. doesn't help you much now... but its a good idea. ;)

If you always choose to import every audio file to pool, and make sure u import it in the project folder you can always recall everything u have made instantly when moving to different computer.

All VST instruments settings are always saved into the project so thats no concern, also if you should miss a plugin it will appear on a missing list each time u start the project.

If you are unsure if you have saved audio files within the right project folder, you can easily just use File - Save Project to new folder on each of your projects.

The only pain in the ass you are going to get then is atually reinstalling each plugin.
