| Does the gold plated jack that comes with the Sony 7506 justify the purchase over the v6's (otherwise they are the same headphone correct?) |

| The V6s have actually got a slightly wider frequency range and are slightly more sensitive (although nothing you'd really notice tbh, the 7506s are very good as they are). The 7506s apparently also comes with a more inclusive manufacturer's warranty, which accounts for a lot of the extra price. |

| I think the gold jack thing is rubbish, but the 7506's are absolutely worth the $100. How much are they charging on your end of the pond? |

The 7506's rock.
But in Europe they are expensive.
Mine cost me £120.00 plus postage.
So glad I've got them though, they sound so fackin good.
USA is dirt cheap for equipment, my mate bought his 7506's on import for almost half the price of mine. I was well pissed off! |

About the gold thing.....for once and for all. GOLD DOES NOT GIVE YOU BETTER SOUND QUALITY. PERIOD.
All it will do is not corrode or oxidise, which means over a period of years the connection will not degrade, but this timeframe is probably much longer than your headphones will ever last for.
According to Son'y websites the V6's are part of the Sony Style range (more aimed at consumers/DJ's), whereas the mdr7506's are Sony Pro (aimed at pro studio/broadcast).
They apparently use the same 40mm drivers but somehow the specs differ.
MDR 7506 have a 24 ohm impedence with a frequency response of 10-20k hz.
The V6's have 63 ohm impedence with frequency response of 5-30k hz.
These figure don't really mean anyhting though becuase our hearing (if we are lucky) is 20-20khz and both of them cover that. Impedence can determine volume output in headphones but a difference of this much would be minimal anyway.
Besides the both have a sensitivity of 106db.
Basically they are the same headphones, but one (7506) has the gold jack, and is possibly made slightly better (if it's true that they are made in different factories).

in my mdr-7506 review thread i did a side by side comparison with the v6 and i found the 7506 to sound a little more defined and cripser

rann is correct, the v6 are aimed towards consumers while the 7506 is for professional applications
along with the gold plated jack there must be some higher quality parts used to warrant the price difference |
