Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel

Anyone ever watch this? If so, did you see the one where he went to Taiwan and ate "stinky" tofu?

I haven't seen this one, but is it kind of similar to Anthony Bourdain's show on the Food Network ("A Cooks Tour" is the title, I think)?

I'm sure they emphasize weird foods much more heavily on this, but Bourdain's show is definitely all about immersing yourself in the eating culture of another society, regardless of how it jibes with western societal norms.

The premise is very similar, but they both go about it in VERY different ways. Anthony doesn't usually get that much into the outskirts as much as this guy does. He usually will start in the major city, and then branch out to a bunch of smaller cities.

Yeah, Bourdain doesn't hit many of the kinds of "tribal" or maybe "less civilied" places that the Bizarre Foods guy seems to, but I think the anthropological approach to studying food is pretty awesome regardless of each of these fellows different methods.

Will check this one out some time.

Yeah I agree with you there. The "Bizarre Foods" ep with the stinky tofu in Taiwan is supposedly on again today. Although being that you are on the central time zone, it may have aired already. According to the travel channel website, there are 2 eps on tonight at 9 and 10pm ET.

Hahahaha Yeah. He was afraid of eating the scorpions if I remember correctly. I really love this show. It is interesting to see. You can really get a feel of how well you could like it, or not. lol

So long as it's fried, I'll probably at least try it.

Extra points for butter frying or deep frying.

The one where he swallowed a live octopus and the tentacles were reaching out his mouth trumped all...

Tons of deep fried stuff is on this show. In fact, it seems that most of the things he eats when in the Asian countries, is fried or deep fried.
