Trance DJs:

I'm trying to move into the trance scene and I'm having trouble deciding which set-up to buy. I have prior experience doing some hip-hop/top40 BS with a Serato setup, but I don't know if Serato would be the best choice for getting doing trance. I sold everything I had dj-related about a year ago to pull up my grades and during that time really started listening to trance/electronica and hating hip-hop/top40. I know what I want to do with my music ... it's like I hear opportunities to mix certain things in, sample acapellas, blend tracks, I recognize when things need to be added in specific areas to make the mix flow, & etc. I am very influenced by Armin's A State of Trance radio series but still do my own thing.
What software setup should I be getting? Is Ableton Live the way to go for trance DJs, even now with Serato 1.8 out? I was thinking that I should go with the Rane TTM57SL mixer, but I see people on here going on about the Ecler EVO5, Traktor Scratch, Ableton ... I don't know what I should do. |

Buy the one thats right for you. If you dont have specific questions, you haven't done enough research.
+obligatory 'die in a fire if you're an alt' clause. |

Serato just works, plain and simple. It does exactly what I want it to do. |

I agree with u...trance with the typical Ableton usage has not sounded good from what I have heard. |

Shoot me down if you want, i never post in these ableton wars but IMHO, you can of course use Ableton to do tonnes of creative stuff in any genre.
However to me, Trance is a but more simple. Not in a bad way, but i think it has more of a linear flow compared to other genres. Introducing too many sources can sometimes ruin it for me. Compared to other genres where you can layer tonnes of inputs on top of each other.
I dunno, just my 2c. Of course you can use it though (ableton).
If i was starting from scratch, i'd probably get myself some CDJ's. However, i love my 1210's and Serato.
Get a good mixer though. Too many people skimp on the mixer.

i just think theres a vast difference between good creativity and creativity used just to make something sound different. trance is often already so packed and mudded with sounds its kind of pointless |
