A new ordinance becomes effective this thursday which aims to rid the streets of tantalizing oily meat smells. Can I get a "hell no!"?
The fine print says the trucks will have to switch locations every hour, and it only restricts taco trucks in unincorporated parts of Los Angeles, which accounts for 65% of the county. What are we supposed to do, chase the trucks down the street like wild dogs? What is this world coming to? You can't earn a living without someone coming over and saying hey you get your dang life off the street, it's in the way of parking meters and cigarette butts. And what's worse for you, eating tacos or smoking?! hmmm, think about that Mr. Politics.
Do they have any idea how many folks are able to sober up real quick downing a bucket of tacos on the tail end of a bender on the town? Saving them from great illnesses that would afflict them the next day. Or how about people who work at hospitals and eat a taco for lunch. What are they supposed to do? What if they get so hungry, they accidentally eat someone's intestines because it looks so much like beef? What if they eat your heart? Or replace your kidney with a sandwich? A SANDWICH?!?!?!

Sign this petition to save our taco trucks.
Go to this website and consider buying a t-shirt. It could be worth a lot on ebay when the floods come. Or I guess after the floods pass and the internet is re-invented.
And tonight, grab a swankie meal in East LA. Be part of history. Eat so many tacos.

(And thanks to Lili for writing an incensed myspace bulletin calling all Taco Lovers and Crusaders for Social Justice to arms...)

right now the time limit is set at 1/2 an hour, but the fine is pretty much a slap on the wrist ($60). they increased the time limit to an hour, but added a significant penalty for exceeding it.

I remember it became a big issue over in Oakland here once because the time limit there is only 20 minutes...and OPD decided to start enforcing it a couple years ago. Was outrate on the news. :p

same deal down here in (Vista) where i live.

the roach coaches were hurting the regular taco stands business. So they complained and the city passed a ruling so that the trucks couldn't be on the streets

they were DAMN good tacos with fresh made tortillas :)
