80's pop music is so much better than the today, but generally I still don't respect the major pop musicians of the 80's.
Interesting fact: the main melody from Solarstone - Seven Cities is taken from a 1983 pop song called Change In Mood by Australian band Kids In The Kitchen.

Also, Ferry Corsten - Fire, the vocals are sampled from Simon le Bon

very under-rated tune and one of the best keyboard lines ive ever heard
and another one under-appreciated one...

Hamid,
I had to laugh. Home by the Sea was one of my favorite songs, but that virtual reality video ruined it for me. I always thought the song was talking about a mental hospital (ala Eagle's Hotel California).
Related to the original topic:
MTV (as well as other advanced technologies like the walkman & CD) had a huge impact on music in the 80's. "Groundbreaking" videos often turned me on to music. And I'm a little embarrassed to define what I considered to be cutting edge- it usually had to do with a lot of hair gel and pouty poses (cf. Thompon Twins). :stongue:
Here are some of my 80's favorites not yet mentioned...
Art of Noise (One of my all time favorites from any era)
Bon Jovi (C'mon, I'm from Philly)
The Fixx
Pat Benatar
Def Leppard
Clash
Talking Heads
REM
God, I love 80's threads. Thanks for making my day.

The Fixx! Great, great new-wave band. "Red skies at night oh ohhhh..." I don't know why, but i always related The Fixx with a particular Killing Joke era (e.g.Killing Joke's album "Light From A Thousand Suns"). They kind-of had a similar "big" sound. Nice, nice thanks for reminding! :)
