While we're on topic, do you guys know how to change your Facebook profile so that only the first letter of your last name appears when people look at it or do a search for you? I've entered my real full name there when I signed up, but now I'd like to change it to only show the first initial (I have a very rare surname, and unfortunately when I send out e-mail to customers from work, it shows my full name - I send out hundreds of e-mails daily, most of which are just automated database responses, but nevertheless they all show my full name and I don't want anyone unauthorized to be able to look me up, even with the restricted privacy settings that I have). I've tried t change it recently by going to Account -> Name change, but FB didn't allow me to and claimed that "Your full name must be attached to your profile". :conf:
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated :D |

Kamka, I think they became really strict with name changing now :(
I changed mine a while ago, so I only have L as my last name initial
however when I went back to add "Funky" as my middle name, that didn't work :( |

For a/, no employer is going to try to circumvent facebook security measures for every single potential applicant. I doubt anyone's going to even bother searching for you on Facebook. Generally, HR have more important things to do. Even calling the references you provide is starting to become rare.
c/ as well. It's so much effort to search your name, find what forums you belong to (for example, the facebook links in this thread hide your name from the google bot), and then wade through your posting history for hours on end trying to find out what you did last weekend. No one's going to bother. |
OK, you tell yourself that if it makes you feel better. I'm not talking about if you are just an applicant - I mean if you're in final rounds for a decent job. For professional positions, it's a possibility, trust me. |
