2008 trance song:
Take a classic trance song
Simplify the melody: all notes play right in between the beats (same as open hihat)
Synthesis for the melody: a pluck sound supersaw (f env depth high, short decay)
Use some cheap ass electro bassline (1 saw + noize) with triplets at every last few notes of the loop.
Use sidechain compression on EVERYTHING.
Et voil, you can be played in ASOT.

Thank god some people, like airwave proved with touareg, still make trance.
Just my humble 2 cents :) |

I'm not really a fan of ASOT anymore. It's just boring. Trance Around the World is awesome... Corsten's Countdown is pretty good, too. |

ASOT is VERY hit and miss these days. Sometimes it's brilliant and at other times truly terrible. I tend not to listen to the live editions too much as it's just the DJs whoring their own tracks out, instead of playing something new and fresh. |

No kiddin'.
Even guys like Robert Nickson, who used to make just great tracks recently made one of those Always Sidechain Our Trash crapsongs with "never again".
Those who don't know what I mean should listen to the crappy remixes of the legacy and greece 2000 in asot 350. This makes me really sad.
The legendary earlier episodes will keep a special place on my HD though. It reminds me of the days trance music was enjoyable and used to have feelings. |

All the criteria for being played in ASOT is true, except for one more thing. You have to be famous to get your tune played :)
If you are an unheared of producer with an ultra kick ass truly great song, they will not even litsen to it coz they dont know your name so they will instantly move your choon to the trashbin. :) |

I agree totally with ASOT. I don't even listen to it anymore, it just got me bored. Instead, I alway listen to Trance Around The World, that show is just f*cking awesome, and hey, Jono, Pavo and Tony are really funny to LOL.
However, I really disagree your philosophy about getting your track played in ASOT. It takes really hard work and of lot of skill to create a descent trance track. But about those 2k8 remixes about every damn song we heard a hundred times already, I agree.
People, stop making remixes of old classics, in that way, you even up the original which made us all dance!!!!

nonsense, there's just a lot of people that don't know which strings to pull :). And a lot of labels as well. Of course an established producer is more likely to be picked, but it's far from impossible for less known producers. |

funny, as Touareg is full of sidechain too... maybe used the subtle way for listeners?
Regarding ASOT, no comment! People who read my past blogs know what I think. But still, it's not too hard getting plays. Look at DJ Apwal a few weeks ago, the guy is from TAFr, and he got a play on ASOT with a mash-up that he made for fun. Apwal = naked;-)
