just sharing cuz this is pretty ed up and wondering if ANYONE has had anything like this happen to them.

for the past week my cable has been really ty in one of the upstairs bedrooms. its been causing the cable tv to just cut out completely as well as obviously the internet connection. i didnt pay any attention to it for the first few days cuz i figured my cable company was just upgrading something. no biggie. but it hasnt stopped. when it happened today, i noticed the cable tv downstairs was still working, so i checked the coaxial connection upstairs on the wall jack and the coaxial jack and the male part of the cable were both REALLY hot. i of course unplugged it, and it cooled down, and i replaced the cable, but the tv signal still isnt as good as it once was before this problem arose, so im sure itll heat up again, as its probably been doing for the past week. i called the cable company and they are sending someone out soon.

but wtf... anyone EVER heard of a coaxial cable heating up like that? its ing freaky.

Not really, just make sure one end isn't plugged into a wall socket.

Must be something with the cable wiring for the upper level of your house. Is there another jack you can test it with?

well the cable signal downstairs and in the other bedroom are fine. in this bedroom the signal is kind of snowy. so im sure the issue is within the wall... but how the do they fix that without knocking the wall open?

someone probably climbed a poll in your neighborhood and tried to steal cable. it happened to us. just call the cable company and ask them to come check it out.

Is it on a splitter? if so then you may need to replace the splitter. Also, how many total outlets do you have active? And do you have any tv's on that level in other rooms? If so are they all fine?

Myra: Only if they are jacked into your tap (the thing in the yard or street) would you be affected. Otherwise it will be fine.

PS: I used to work for a cable company.

Most houses have a cable control type box in the closet of the master bedroom or outside the house somewhere. The cable tech could probably figure out what the problem is from either of those spots without having to rip open the wall :p

That said, the upstairs and downstairs of a house are usually wired independently, so it's possible for the rooms upstairs to have problems and not the rooms downstairs.

the more important question is... are you getting any porn channels that you're not paying for?

She really wasn't joking though. Some dude ran up the pole in our neighborhood and tried to jack cable.

:wtf:

Internets for the whole neighborhood was out, but finding out what the problem actually was wound up being mildly amusing.

hahaha unless you're in the mountains where they take forever to upgrade the cable system, this is impossible.

That's just part of the charm of Milwaukee (and I'm saying that in all seriousness).

One of the best parts of living here, especially where we do, is that there are all sorts of characters.
