This is interesting, the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium is actually "temporarily" *closed* according the official web site .
Ticketmaster does not list any future events at the facility, and the site doesn't mention when it will reopen.
Could that be why a venue is not named yet, when normally one would expect it would be BGCA? |

| Yeah, it's been "temporarily closed" since 3/31/08 per their website, anyone know why? |

| from what i hear they have been doing renovations to the Bill graham |

to be more precise, they are doing seismic retrofits to the Bill Graham.
I just learned that the other day when my friends at the Academy had to have their graduation ceremony at the cow palace, instead of the BG.
Dunno when they'll be done... hopefully in time for the LoveFest... |

some time ago, i was talking to someone about why some other event was not being done at BGCA and they said renovation, so i immediately thought about love fest, and they said it should re-open by then... don't remember who/when/what i asked...
but out of curiosity, i just emailed the guy on that BGCA homepage and his reply:
| quote: | As of today we do not have a re-opening date.... We have taken no booking past March 1 2008 so the date of OCT 4 is open.... However if and when when we do resume booking I will give the date to Skills has the have been here for a few years and give deposits for future dates."

| so sounds to me Skills/Spundae has already expressed their interest, otherwise he wouldn't say that. So all depends on it being done by then. Personally, I would pay double or more to see Armin somewhere more intimate...I know that wouldn't happen, given the size and nature of the event. Just sayin' that's my preference over a place like BG. |

Bill Graham got new management who is making changes to make the place a more appealing concert venue. Maybe they are also retrofitting, but I haven't heard about that...
It wasn't clear how long it'll be closed, but only a range of 6 months - 1 year was given.
I read those few details in the paper a couple months back. I think it was just info the writer heard herself, but I forget. |

must be this below from the SF Chronicle.. i think i also came across this

March 3, 2008 - It looks as if the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium is going to be closed - for a period of time that might be as short as six months or as long as a year - while new management makes physical improvements to the site. This matter is on the desk of the city's director of convention facilities, John Noguchi, right now, and it's not yet signed, sealed and delivered. But from what I hear, the place will reopen as a spiffed-up concert venue.

| Not to be a pessimist, but knowing SF city government and its innifficienies, could be a while before it's reopened. I imagine the event organizers would like to secure a venue asap. Though, any changes are very welcome. The venue needs a lot of work. |
