Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a good free Vst for piano?

Or if not free, a good cheap one?

I use edirol orchestra - but the piano just doesnt do it for me....!

The only good piano vsts I've heard are the more expensive sample based ones. I didn't mind the piano samples in Cakewalk's Dimension Pro though. Wasn't perfect, but also wasn't too bad. That would be on the cheaper end I guess?

try soundfonts. the Splendid136 doesn't sound too bad

Personally I like Native Instruments Akoustik Piano. You'll end up spending at least a little bit on a piano vst just because of the all the sampling involved. I did see someone mentioned soundfonts. I believe I have the M1 piano soundfont somewhere if you want it. It's not the best, but it's usable.

look for the splendid136 soundfont...I use it and it's great :)

can make a sample for you if you like ;)

It depends on how realistic you want it to sound.

Every soundfont I have tried sounds cheap. True Pianos is not bad. Personally, I think you should buy Kontakt. The sounds are good and you can actually use it for something other than just pianos... On a bang for buck basis, I think Kontakt wins.
Subtle
Steinberg The Grand 2, it doesnt get much more real than that.

while i like steinberg's the grand, it didn't seem customizable enough for me. it sounds good, but not THAT good, and i feel like it's missing a lot of options that i would like to tweak it to how i want it to sound (granted i've only played around with it for about an hour or so though).

i like pianoteq personally, you can download the trial and use it for 30 days i think. at the time i had a big problem with my internal HD and had to reformat it/reinstall windows every week or so so i was able to reinstall pianoteq trial over and over again and not have to pay for it. lol

also if done right, FL Keys does the trick.
