I am new to production and cannot understand the concept of audio busses that are used in programs such as logic and ableton. Can someone please explain this concept to me. As well as how they are used etc

A bus is another audio channel that you can send any other number of channels to so that you can apply effects to them.
For instance you might rout your kick track and snare track to a bus and put some compression on them.

Think of every audio channel as a little school kid. And you put them all in a bus. Then you can put effects on it.
Like a big truck running it over (ditortion/bit crusher). :)
