Maybe it's not that way out east, but here guys like Bolier & co. are definitely a dime a dozen, and at least for my part, I can stomach about half an hour of that out at a club before I am bored less.
yeah it's definitely different out here, new york is all about its house and minimal nowadays. THe only trance we hear is when european dj's come through. I can't really think of any local established trance dj's, they're all house names (JP, Tenaglia, etc).
anyway, Bolier's sound appeals to me because it's a very good balance of melody & darker tech sounds. Esp. his track Ocean Drive Blvd., the bassline on that is so ing mean, but he still has that dreamy piano in the breakdown to contrast it. In general, i think his melodies are very moody, at least to me :p

Yeah dude - I would never slate you for having different taste than me, and can absolutely understand that every scene is different. Unfortunately, Chicago in particular has taken a bit of a turn towards the commercial stuff as far as clubs go, and the only place to really catch a lot of good techno the last few months has been quote en quote "underground" parties - i.e. parties I have no desire to either attend or play at due to the general shady-ness of it all.
And I guess when you take the hipster element into effect, New York is probably not the first place I'd think of as a prog/trance haven. :p

there is only one picotto. picotto probably cost the promoter 6 times the price of boiler. which means you will get a better deal on picotto. plus its less likely picotto will be rebooked in your area in the near future because of the cost he is to book. the likelihood boiler (or similar young trance kid) will be booked again soon is a lot greater than picotto or adam beyer for example- because the promoters will be less worried about punters being put off paying to see them again after seeing them recently.

thats rubbish. comparing tiesto to picotto in this argument is a major failure. picotto charges what he deserves to earn per set. tiesto charges way over what he should be, and id bet a lot of what he charges goes to pay a huge team of admin and clerical workers (something that i deeply disagree with in the musical profession). i bet he employes about 30 people to do the running of the tiesto empire.
The reason i mention price was in the fact that it means he will be a less likely rebooking in the near future. there is sure to be another digital kid like boiler (who plays a variation of armin or schulz's style) booked soon after, and if not, go and see a more regular armin/tiesto/nickson/colontonio/john o callaghan/menno etc gig when it comes up... close your eyes during a boiler set and it will be hard to distinguish from another modern 'digital era' trance set full of boring lack lusture tunes made by over practiced, desperate 20 yr old technicians with no real musical influence or direction. close your eyes during a picotto set and you will know its picotto, his age and earlier influences mean he atleast has a touch of soul and credibility.

Havent seen Boiler, but seen Picotto on a couple of occasions. Hes different to what you expect from his 2000 sets, but still pleasing, in know way did I think minimal.. He was banging them out... although it was 4am at Privilege.
Also I think it would be fair to say Picotto would pull a larger crowd. You will either go to Picotto, walk out and say 'im really glad I did that' or walk out after half hour and think 'why the fuk did I go here'
Go with Picotto and take a chance...
It'l be ace, I was in KL a week before Tiesto was spinning there! I was gutted, I tried to extend my trip...
