refx nexus or specratronics atmosphere

I was considering getting a rompler for pads ,for use in dream ,classic and progressive trance and some chillout music.
I know i could get some hardware just dont have thousands to spend right now on a Roland JP-8000 ,or a virus
If i dont get a rompler ill just make my own pads from scratch i have a few vsts ,just some of my synths are kinda weak i guess with a bit more hard work and some tweaking i could program some patches myself. but i would mainly like to know hands down which rompler is better for just pads. |

I have both Nexus (+ most of the expansions) and Atmosphere and I would say that Atmosphere is hands-down the winner for just pads. Nexus has some excellent pads, especially in the 'Stratosphere' expansion, but it doesn't have the breadth or number of pads that Atmosphere ships with. Plus, you have to pay extra for the 'Stratosphere' expansion. Nexus is better all-around rompler, but Atmosphere is a pad specialist.
A few other options that are not romplers to consider are Cakewalk Rapture and NI Absynth - both are excellent for pads, but I'd give the edge there to Rapture because its' a better all-around synth and there are two free expansion packs available, each with a bunch of extra pads. HTH. |

Yeah, for pads atmosphere is your answer when you compare the two. However, be forwarned in the event that you are running an Intel based Mac. You see, you need this crap of a wrapper to run with your host application. It also makes you put in your validation code each time you use it in your host. Furthermore it is not recommended to run more than one instance of the plug-in in your project - trust me on this! Spectrasonics doesn't seem to consider it a priority to update the software to run correctly on the Intel based Mac. I find this "solution" very cumbersome and a waste of efficiency. So now that I have a new Intel based Macintosh I don't use Atmosphere anymore, sadly. This is likely because they want you to to gear up to purchase there $500 or $600 Omnisphere that is going to be coming out. This I find hard to pony up considering Spectrasonics lack of support on a platform that is more than two years mature.
Let me disclose an email dialogue that illustrates their commitment to support and the obvious tunnel vision view to revenue. It reads chronologically from the bottom to the top, but pay particular attention to the last reply on top from Spectrasonics:

Try using 1024. The wrappers will allow you to work with the plugins, but as you can see there are limitations.
Are you aware that Omnisphere will be the successor to Atmosphere and will be fully Intel Native, and contain the entire Atmosphere Library?
Also, that the future of Trilogy will also be based on the same STEAM engine, and will be released sometime after Omnisphere?

Sorry, but I don't want to run my soundcard at 1024. It works just fine at 256 buffer. So, as you can see from this dialogue what the priority is.
If you are running another platform consider this entertainment value.

thanks guys for your help ill give atmosphere a go then ,i actually have Absynth i could make pads with that of course, i did try a trial version of nexus ,but i noticed there was no way to modify or alter the overall sound the sounds were pretty standard and boring ill give atmosphere a try but if theres no way to mix sounds and timbres like in abysynth i may just stick with absynth since it allows you to make sounds that are unique and mix 6 different oscilators.

absynth 4 is probably the best bet for unique and complex pad sounds, but it's not the only option, i often use arturia minmoog v or cs-80v for my pads... or even massive...
