Ending with complete measures?

Let me preface this post by saying that I have never done production before, but have recently been more interested in it because of my DJing...
Over the past few days I have been trying to extend album versions of tracks to be longer. For this I have been using Ableton Live. For the most part I have been doing [fairly] simple things like adding an extra measure of beats with loops.
However, today I have been working on Ferry Corsten's L.E.F and have hit somewhat of a "lack of knowledge" roadblock. When editing a track, do you have an even amount of measure when you are done? And also, when editing a track do you want to make sure that you are editing them in measure-sized-chunks? |

8 Bars? Not 16? |

Alright. So basically the length of whatever I add, whether it is a loop of a section or copying an entire section, should be in a multiple of 8? |

For some reason reason it just didn't click with me I guess. Brain didn't want to put basic concepts of DJing together with basic concepts of production. Thanks for the help. |
