Hipsters v. Club Kids (pg. 2)

| This issue is very important to me, as probaby 75 percent of my school is hipsters. I solve the problem by listening to both club and hipster music, and when I go to hipster parties I dress like a club kid and when I go to clubs I dress like a hipster. |

| Oh wait, I forgot "club kids" could specifically refer to, like, Michael Alig-era, costume wearing, also-scenesters. I was just using the term loosely to refer to the traditional dance music crowd. |

| I've been completely uninvolved in the rise of scenester/hipster culture but had my first real encounter with that side of things last night. Here in Toronto a bunch of indie rock/art school-types organized a warehouse break-in with installations and various bands playing in an old solid waste and recycling transfer station. It was a weird experience overall... essentially they've followed in the footsteps of the freetekno movement without (as near as I can tell) any of the political dialogue that informed that particular movement. "Leave no trace" transmuted into "trash this place" or something of the kind. Very strange... but still, it was interesting just the same. The extra focus on art set it apart from some of the more straight-up dance parties I've been to--however dubious the quality of some of the work was. I see some potential for crossover here. And besides, isn't Circa in Toronto sort of like a club kids meets hipster thing anyhow? I've not been but that's the impression I receive from photos, reviews, and promo copy I've seen around on the net. |

No specifics... but this was the general feel of the event I was writing about : dark, wet, and dirty.

meh, wrote a wall of text and didnt bother.
bottom line, dont be so quick to hit on hispters. they are sometimes the bread and butter allowing some crazy promoters/organizations to organize dreamy events. |

i love hipsterism. i used to hate it, saying things like "it should only be about the music". but ive realized, fashion is an art form too, self expression. for example what kind of scarf defines who i am and my individuality and uniqueness? check this link:
